No this song is about the bay area scene. the bay is full of gangs too, down there could refer to Oakland, San Fransisco, San Jose or down the street. why would he sing about L.A. as opposed to Oakland? Tim armstong was part of op ivy he does all the backup vocals and guitar under the name "Lint"

Operation Ivy - Bad Town Artists > Operation Ivy > Bad Town Submitted by emoJustin on November 22, 2001 Get Operation Ivy Ringtones! Your ringtone stinks. Get a new one. they call it a scene I call it disaster down here the kids grow up faster scared they're scared to the bone like a pack of wolves they don't run alone one on one they won't look you in the eye but when the pack's together there's a battle cry I saw it fifteen on one when the crowd dispersed the kid was done no (no more) no (bad town) no more bad town yeah down there you gotta have a label just like a cattle in a stable knee jerk reaction I call it violence why speak out when you could be silenced down there on the dance floor too much violence I dont want more down there out on the street I can see the air I can see the heat (chorus) 1 Advertisement by Spade9 on 07-18-2002 @ 07:26:23 PM A Great Ska Song About How Some People Grow Up by soothsayer on 08-30-2002 @ 10:29:04 PM I know it was written well beforehand, but this song describes NJ hardcore kids perfectly. They beat the crap out of anyone who doesn't have the "label". As for the original intent, yeah, life sucks in a lot of places. I was fortunate enough to move out of one. Op Ivy was such a great band. It's a shame Rancid can't be even half the band Op Ivy was by Skankinrudegirl101 on 09-22-2002 @ 06:59:59 PM i agree with the rancid shit lol! by foreignman on 09-27-2002 @ 06:54:06 AM actually rancid kix ass, but so does operation ivy. by Mumia_is_inocent on 03-04-2003 @ 05:11:02 AM rancid is more than half the band op ivy was. but they're still not as good as and never will be as good as op ivy. by NgohOiNei on 04-21-2003 @ 02:42:10 AM I live in Berkeley Ca where Op Ivy is from. I think this song was written about the sheep we refer to as punk kids who all hang out at a local club called 924 Gilman, where they started playing. comejoinus Nailed it. It's just the scene not any place in particular. He also nailed it about WHat Punk truly is. Some would say I dress "urban" but please believe I am punk rock thru and thru. It's not a style, it's a life choice. Punk Means thinking for yourself.

It's about Los Angeles and the punk scene down there. I don't see how it could be construed as anything else. "Down there ... I can see the air, i can see the heat" the LA smog, the gang violence, etc

This song is generally about the scene. The scene anywhere. The fact we have a scene is rediculous. I myself have a big mohawk and many tattoos and such, but you have to realize, it's not on the way you look or dress, but the way you think and act. So what if a kid's wearin' gap. I personally don't buy from gap, but nearly EVERY place you go is going to be stocked from a sweat shop. Take five seconds to get to know someone and realize violence isn't the answer. Big words are much better weapons.
