	i think that it is about someone who was hard on drugs, and is coming clean. 'loosing sleep, in too deep.' in doing so, relization in what he has done sets in and he becomes depressed. 'fading sun, what have i done' then he is thinking back to when he was on drugs and thought about the euphoria that he almost had achieved, but sees himself now as being empty 'came so close to what i need most, nothing left here' now hes coming to terms with it all the mistakes, lies and deceit that he has done in the past 'cut the ties, uncovered disguise, left behind all intertwined, lost control, moved out of the role, now, nothings left here' now in his physical and mental anguish he relizes that no one is to blame but himself, his wounds were all self inflicted. even after all of his friends and family advised him against doing drugs. 'Leave it be It was meant for me Soul sacrifice Forgot the advice' now he remembers when he was on drugs and he had no grig on reality, time didnt matter to him. then he accepts his fate.. 'Lost track of time In a flurry of smoke Waiting anxiety For a fair judgement deserved' But thats my interpretation/opinion....

	What's with all the jesus stuff? It's incredibly improbable, given that (1) I've only ever heard Americans talk about the rapture, (2) Swedes, like other scandics, tend to be atheists/agnostics, and christians are clearly in the minority, and (3) /it's a metal band/. Moreover, a /scandinavian metal band/. When scandinavian metal bands start singing about god and jesus, it's usually about how they're going to have surprise buttsecks with them, or other wholesome activities. As for Ddadutta ... what, you expected metal lyrics to be serious? :-P

	After going through the motions of preparing for this record's release and reading Mikael's uncertainty about placing this track on this album, I've always thought that the lyrics were an apology or a justification for it's (the track's) own existence. When he says, "Lost control, moved out of the role now", it makes me think of his being uncomfortable about releasing an album that maybe isn't as dynamic as what the band as done before. He's felt as though he's moved away from a straight death metal record. The last lines, "Waiting Anxiety/ For a Fair Judgement deserved" could be interpreted as him being full of anxiety about the reception of this track on a straight death metal record, but he's telling himself that even though he couldn't find a place for it anywhere else, this track deserves to be heard. Of course, this is more of an observation than an interpretation. I know this couldn't possibly have been going through Mikael's head as he was writing the lyrics for this track, but I've always loved the placement of this track and the irony behind the lyrics.

	I personally think this song is about the rapture. The bible states the rapture will be "A fair judgement" and if you look at the lyrics it hints toward someone being left behind in this world, and everyone is gone and then realizing what happened and regretting your mistakes and seeing this is how your fate truly is. I dunno if thats what the meaning really is, just my personal thoughts about this song this song rocks live! OPETH OWN JOO!!!!!!!111

	My interpretation is that it's about the battle between Nature and Man. "Losing sleep, in too deep Fading sun, what have I done Came so close to what I need most Nothing left here" He is speaking as if being all of Mankind, and after destroying so much of earth, the sun seems like it is fading, and nothing is left, since we destroyed it all in the pursuit of satisfying our greedy desires. Now, we can't rest, for we know the end is too near... "Cut the ties, uncover disguise Left behind all intertwined Lost control, moved out of the role now Nothing's left here" This is another part of this story on a more individual level: it's about how individuals (esp. world leaders) cause destruction and then cut him/herself (/themselves) off from it to not take any blame- an average human action. So many have done this, and now there's no going back... "Leave it be It was meant for me Soul sacrifice Forgot the advice Lost track of time In a flurry of smoke Waiting anxiety For a fair judgement deserved" Our souls have been sacrificed, and from everything destroyed (due to us not looking at how quickly the end could come), there is smoke and nothing left, only an inevitable end. We deserve to go with what we destroyed. This is a fair judgement by nature. No god caused it; we did it to ourselves.
