It reminds me of the story of Rome and Julia. They both would die for eachother. Eventually Romeo takes his own life because he thinks that Julia is dead. This unlimited desire to be together would explain the line: "wiltered scenes for us who couldn't wait". They coudn't wait to be together forever And Romeo killed himself, just to be with his loved one in the afterlife. That might be what is meant by: "but it's me who's the martyr" (he died for someone else) . I think it makes sense.

i agee wih the song being about death and about not wanting to be alone when you die but i agree with being confused on the line "Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait." this made me think maybe its about two lovers who wanted out of this world "rise bout the vile". i think that they wanted to die together but one of them was to afraid in the end and watched while their lover died. they both were willing to venture in to death's "orchard" in the begining but it was only one who could go through with it. "Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr" to me shows maybe he doesnt want to die and is now resentful that he will be dying on his own - "Never leave me be"
