| This is quite possibly the most depressing song I've ever heard, but it's also beautiful. The fragmented delivery of the lyrics in the two verses is incredible, too. I think it really goes well with the message of depression and suicide. Damnation is an incredible album, and Opeth is an incredible band. One of my favorite songs by them. | |

| I also am a complete Opeh fanatic, mainly because i can relate to the lyrics better then i've ever been able to with any other band, well i just got out of a two year relationship recently, so more and more of these songs are making sense to me, but hey they make me happy :D, and i just had a school concert and did to bid you farewell and demon of the fall :D:D, hehe anyways, what this song means to me is that his "someone", girlfriend, wife, whoever, has broken his heart, and the pain seems to have not been the first time "This time there is nothing left for you to take, this is goodbye" there's no more left in him for this complete (for lack of better words) bitch, to take from him, he's broken, and suicide sounds like the only way to stop the heartache, but i agree with Chrissy, he does feel there might be someone, he has hope to live for someone, even though he probebly was only alive for the one he loved, i can understand that right now hehe, "And I should contemplate this change To ease the pain" he is contimplating it, it "should" not commit suicide, so he knows better, but the pain is unbearable, and if anyone has ever been in the guys position in a seriouse breakup, the only [erson you want in that time of need is the girl you love, and if she's not there anymore the emptiness is anuf to kill you. | |

| My girlfriend of over two years just left me last week, and for my "best friend" no less. This song is meaning a lot to me right now. I just found out last night she is going out with my best friend, and all I want to do is die. The first verse is certainly a good summary of how I feel. "Would someone watch over me, In my time of need." That part makes me feel pretty bad since I don't have my friend to watch over me. We have always been there for each other before, but I don't think a true friend what have done this to me. Opeth makes me feel better and worse at the same time, but for good reasons, know what I mean? I feel terrible and am having trouble put it all into focus, but I can listen to a song for someone who has already been there. It makes it easier to go on, kind of. I guess I'll find out soon enough. | |
