	It's almost defenitely about raping someone, then murdering them. Just look... "Erotic communion on it's splendour", come on. "I am beyond death" shows how the rapist feels so powerful during the rape. Rape is mostly a crime of dominance, not sexual attraction. So, this seals ot for me. He also describes how he got to the woman.

	Most of the songs on Blackwater Park are actually very dirty. You'd be surprised as to how typical death metal subjects they write about (however, much more poetically). Leper Affinity, the way I see it, is about a guy who stores the dead body of a woman and sleeps with it.' The main theme is dominance, typical DM-stuff.

	This is about Opeth songs in general;I always wondered if the clean and harsh vocals were suppose to be two different entities.Could they a first person and a demon/evil force or a first person and their conscience.Taking that as a theory this song sounds like someone going into a depression/death spiral.You don't have to tke images of death and murder at face value in lyrics just like dark poems by POE and others.

	i always thought it was about a person raping a person then killing them, You can take it from the lyrics that hes sexual, and the person is forcing themself on the other and then it says "losing to my hate" kinda symbolizing him klling them, and also at the end "it was worth it for the wait alone" could mean he stalked the person or hid somewhere waiting to attack them... just my thought though, cheers!

	Come on. Its about rape. "Your body is mine to avail" -He can do what he wants with her "such a tragic sight you are" -Lying there, naked, powerless "Slave under my creed" -She is at the mercy of him, a slave to his desires "Spuring me with those tears" -Her crying just makes him feel more powerful, eggs him on so to speak "I am beyond death" -As said, his power he feels in this terrible act makes him god-like "Come erotic communion..." -Self explanitory. Now the rest of the song.. is a little harder to interpret. I doubt this is it, but I think its something along the lines of him covering up the evidence, burying her, then some kind of remourse or guilt comming over him? Meh. However, I'm pretty damn certain its about rape. Really no way around that. LOL not like you listen to the lyrics in Opeth anyway. The guitar is all I listen to.

	The more I read the lyrics, the more I think it is nature itself, talking to somebody who has died and been buried: "We entered Winter once again, naked, freezing from my breath. 'Neath the lid all limbs tucked away, this coffin is your abode from now and onwards. Your body is mine to avail." This, to me, is nature or the earth itself speaking. The "breath" of the land is the wind, freezing the ground and all below it. The earth now avails, or uses, the body to its own advantage. The soil itself is nurtured by the corpse, and the decomposition causes the body to return to nature - dust to dust, you know? These lines seem to fit that: "Grew together with your skin, and paced the trails of sin. Your gaze covered with virgin snow; rigid features." All that suggests somebody dead and buried under the cold winter earth. Yeah, I can see it being a metaphor for human failings - it could even be an analogy for a controlling or smothering relationship, in a sick sort of way. But in a literal sense, I believe it's about death and the eternity of burial.

	I think this is actually about someone who is possesed or maybe even schizophrenic. By day he seems like a normal person, but when he's alone at night, he dreams of killing those around him.

	I think it is made to get us to think it's about rape at first, but I think it's not. My guess is that theres only one character, mutilating himself. "Lost are days of Spring You sighted and let me in" Could be a kind of mental disorder speaking to its victim? "Keep the beast inside Shackled within my hide Screaming out too late Losing to my hate Grew together with your skin And paced the trails of sin" Looks like someone who hates himself for whatever sin he has (or thinks he has) done and harms himself as a punishment, no? Well, my two cents!

	A "leper" is not always somebody with leprosy, fit4130. It can also be somebody shunned and avoided by most - an outcast. That seems to fit in better with Opeth's themes.

	I agree, rape doesn't seem (to me at least) to be Opeth's style. A lot of their songs are about death or the loss of someone. They seem to be a bit more poetic about it too.

	i really don't see much of a reference as far as a rapist/killer goes. i can definitely see the corpse/nature idea someone pointed out above though. damn, that's creepy. awesome song by the way.

	6th_sadistic_sniper that is really a brilliant interpertation, i would have never looked at it that way. but i dont believe you are actually right. unfortunately i dont know what this song is about. i think it has to do something with a serial killer or at least a murder. but i'm sure there is more to it than that. i think this song could also have been called the mind of a serial killer. i think this song is about the feelings of a serial killer, its dominance but love in a very twisted and sick way as well and the feeling of being godlike. but i'm simply not sure, very difficult lyric
