	woops :p well its pretty much right , but not a hundred percent, remember even wikipedia is not a hundred percent reliable because it arent mikael's words. the discription of the moor is not right because he is banished because of religious believes. godheads lament is true but the should add that melinda is the godhead from the title benighted is complety true moonlapse vertigo is pretty much right , but town should be changed into country face of melinda in not complety right because sworn to another means in this case a nun (married to god) serenity painted death is about right, but ofcourse he kills the soldiers who killed melinda and not townspeople white cluster is true , but i strongly believe that they waer white for me doesnt apply to people but to angels or spirits , remember that this album is all about religion and is about the irony of someone who completely turns away from the believe in a god only to find out at the last moment that he was wrong but the wikipedia discription is a lot better than the interpretation of a lot of other people here who thinks the I person is black or deformed

	the moor is ofcourse not a person but a place. something close to a swamp. i mean, sorry to see it this way but your pretty stupid if you think its a person. "Passing swiftly through the moor" i mean come one :s passing through a person? give me a break and why do so many people think its about a black man? there is absolutely nothing in the lyrics that indicates that its about a black guy

	the debate seems to 'is it about colour or religion'; i would rather opeth were speaking out about injustice in the world through the beutiful guise o complex poetry, but if you put this song in the context of the still life album, its cover or indead the rest of opeths works, it is clearly a mater of their hazy imaginations; ghosts, deamons and false religion. he is 'outcast with dogmas forged below' which is intresting as the trinity is the only thing i've ever heard described as this was the trinity. but clearly he is not a trinitarian living in a christian town, he hates his creator and he calls himself a godhead (also a wor rarely used out of conjunction with the trinity doctrine) he is a satanist human at the very least, i think he is something like the angels that disobeyed god in the early chapters of genesis that came down to take human wives. but as he is not real i think he is an amalgamation of these things. i like the idea that he is 'the moor' though however he also seems to be in his affection for melinda not unlike the 'nightmares' in the iron maiden song 'still life' in their attraction to the speaker. for me the song 'still life' is parraleled almost perfectly in this album. first melinda is scared, then mesmerised, attracted and finaly kills herself. just like the speaker in the iron maiden song also i find it pertinent that our 'moor' or fallen angel, or satanist or beast repents and accepts god in the album final chapter

	well seeing as how this is my FIRST posted message on this thing for the first opeth song i ever heard i just wanted to say whats up to all the opeth listeners out there who seem to be rare to come across but yeah this song is legendary from the surface of the lyrics to the deepness of its meanings by the best band ever

	i don't see the othello reference at all. the main character is clearly a heretic at the very least that was banished from the town by the moor before the story starts. its quite obvious that he was banished under a religious pretense. his lover, melinda, isn't about to marry another man. she became a nun, or was a nun to begin with. i can't remember which song it's in, but she is refered to as "a harlot of God upon the earth," which could mean a nun. i really don't see this as having anything to do with the KKK or african slaves because that really doesn't fit in with any of opeth's usual themes or the environments they create. yeah. the more and more i think about it, i think of the main character as a hunchback-of-notre-dame like character who was born deformed. people fear and hate what they don't understand and if some ugly wierd looking kid was born, it's probable that they'd refer to him as an "ungodly freak" and a "defiler". the main character was born there, cast out at a fairly early age (6-8?) and lived in the moor/wilderness. he comes back fifteen years later to find melinda, who was perhaps his only childhood friend, only to find out she has become a nun. that's my take as far as the meaning of the whole album. as far as this song goes, it fucking rocks. the first heavy riff they play reminds me of a fucking runaway train. the riff afterwards builds up into the most ungodly roar i've ever heard. hot damn, this song gets me amped.
