	I cant shift my mind of this concept.. The mother has some sort of relationship with a hellish beast, maybe a pysical being like the incubus or a religious connection, and for some reason, becomes pregnant with a unholy spawn. Thats the only real explanation i can find for the line "ghost of predition, stuck in her chest." So going on this, i think this song is about the mothers final hours before passing, knowing what she has allowed her son to become

	"Ghost of perdition Stuck in her chest" Could figure it to be a possesion of Satan or just a simple fact that she has accepted Satan into her life "A warning no one read" Probably meaning she hid this pact from other, perhaps even acted Christian "Road into the dark unaware Winding ever higher" Like a downward spiral into the clutches of Satan "In time the hissing of her sanity Faded out her voice and soiled her name" Drove the mother insane over time "To see a beloved son In despair of what's to come" The son, knowing his mother is going mad, knows of whats soon to come(death)

	well most people already knew that that wasnt part of the story , but read my post in the isolation years topic for proof that this album is not a concept but was orginally intended to be. but you could know that there is isnt a concept because if it were it would be a very bad concept album because the lyrics are extremely incoherent. you really have to use your imagnination big time to see a story in this album but its true that mikael wanted to do a concept at first but because he had written ghost of perdition and isolation year wich didnt fit in with the concept he dropped the whole idea. but there are still signs of the original concept idea in the lyrics, like the appearance of titles of other songs in songs like baying of the hounds en harlequin forest but there is no coherent story in this album and btw the entire album is not about the devil or satan in litteral terms, in every song its a sort of metafor (mikaels own words) like in this song the ghost stands for a deadly or terminal illness, and the devil stands for death or fate

	I didn't think I could like metal, especially not death metal and death metal growls, but this song changed that. Well... I still don't like the growls, but Opeth's melodic death metal is a lot better than much of what's out there. Long live progressive rock... Er, I mean: Long live progressive metal! And rock!
