	Sounds like the beginning of a story......This guys Mother is dieing from all this evil in her seems like she was some figure of good and she can't tell her son the cause of all this she can just watch him walk into the Evil's trap. or maybe im totally off.

	ah i just found even more proof http://www.disturb.org/Opeth_eng.html Per : I think initially Mikael's intention with the lyrics was to write, not a concept album, but maybe a more obvious theme than what finally ended up on the record, and 'Ghost reveries' was maybe a good name for the lyrical theme, like the vibe of the whole thing, but I guess when he starts to write, he just goes off and he might end up all over the place, so the concept album didn't really happen, but some songs are connected together, lyrically.

	well first of all, all lot of people think this is a concept album. but it isnt mikael first had the idea of doing a concept album but then he wrote 2 lyrics wich didnt fit in with the concept. ghost of perdition and isolation years. ( i read this in an interview) so it isnt a concept album but there are still traces of the original idea in the lyrics. like drown in a deep mire... beneath the mire in the song the baying of the hounds. but the songs dont actually form a story anymore. but it still go a theme wich is the devil. but thats kinda obvious. well back to this song. i think its a about a woman with a terminal illness like cancer or something. the ghost of perdition actually is the disease. (ghost of perdition stuck in her chest). she is lying on her bed and she is dying and her young son has to watch her die and he cant do anything about it.(To see a beloved son In despair of what's to come).he knows he will soon be without a mother. the devil is death coming for her. im pretty sure about this, but thats just the first part of the song. i dont really get the ending of the song. perhaps its about the son having peace with his mother death. maybe because he beliefs this is fate and nobody should try to do something about it because of that. it get that from the last part If one cut the source of the flow And everything would change Would conviction fall In the shadow of the righteous The phantasm of you mind Might be calling you to go Defying the forgotten mortals Where the victim is the prey i think this about one not having the right to cure a disease. because it is in god's/satan's hands and not in the hands of a human. its like in some beliefs you cant go to a hospital if you have a disease because you are not allowed to cure it because god gave you that disease for a reason. i think its the same in this song. so the son has peace with his mother's dead because it's fate.

	Oh, and for an actually useful comment, this song does seem to be about exorcism. The lyrics aren't in the style I like, but they are not bad, either. A great song, and the growls are impressive if only for the fact that it's his actual voice and not a computer.

	Maybe the woman in the song gave birth to a demon child/the antichrist. This would make the the child (the narrator in the rest of the songs) the antichrist, which puts some things in a new perspective, especially The Grand Conjuration, in which he summons his father Satan. Or maybe he is struggling because he does not even wish to be the antichrist, but finds no comfort on the earth.

	it was his grandmother.....and the album was planned to be a concept album about a man killing his mother but akerfeldt wanted to include isolation years which isnt about the plot at all so the album is still sorta a concept, more of a motif like Blckwater Park. this is about the murder of his mother

	I'm not positive on this but this song seems to be about someone dying (just from the ghost in her chest and lingering death etc.). Excellent song, kind of a week opening, but its one of those songs that gets progressively better.

	It seems that satan is trying to give one of the people, the son, or his mother, certain directions to do, even if it costs them their life. He does not care about the lives of mortals, because they will die anyway.
