if i could be in a band and cover any song at all, it would be this song. it shows the rage that most of us women have when men are bad to us. very powerful, as all of otep's songs are.

wow, such controversy over a metal song. I'm almost orgasmically joyed to see the debate, though. Keep thinking, people. That above all seems to be what Otep wants us to do. By the way, as a male, I'm not in the least offended by the song. The trouble arises when you fully buy in to the stereotypes and generalizations society feeds you. I'll agree with the idea that there are double standards. women's lib is a double-edged sword, Catch 22 kind of topic. I've known many women that try taking on the same kind of workloads as guys I've know, then complain about how hard their work is. On the flip side, I doubt any guy would willingly go through childbirth. Men and women alike need to learn to agree to disagree on this. Anyway, I love Otep. I wish I could make it with the lead singer 'casue she got me really hot and bothered at Ozzfest '04. And I love the fact that this band, and many others, are not afraid to put what they think and feel into the limelight.

give me a break so you think that because little girls feel pressured to be look like supermodels, all men should die. how typical. this is exactly what im talking about. thankyou for proving my point. lest take a look at some of the comments. "menocide is a made up word. its talking about the mass extinction of men." she is talking about fucking GENOCIDE here. jesus christ what is wrong with your heads. do you not understand the concept of genocide? this isnt womens liberation, this is shallow and juvenile generalisation and lashing out. yeah women have problems, so does EVERYBODY. if you think men dont have problems i could spend hours proving otherwise. women tend to look at the people running the world and think "oh theyre all old white men, therefore i hate men" but the thing you ignorantly tend to ignore is the fact that youre not talking about MEN youre talking about s select group of them, which do not represent us as a whole. for example "if i could be in a band and cover any song at all, it would be this song. it shows the rage that most of us women have when men are bad to us." so what youre saying is that when some men are bad to you, youre justified in feeling rage towards all of them, even the ones you havent even met. yeah i will admit, in places like third world nations, things havent changed. north america is a different story. women have more rights than men here. but i am not getting into it, or i will be sitting here all day.

uhh so obvious. woman... all the shit they suffer.. peer pressure is so extreme. how to feel, how to act.. GOD!! you see these 9-year-old girl on the street looking like Las Vegas' cheap-ass tramps.. THICK THICK make-up, halter tops, mini-skirts. because they are pressured by models who look so PERFECT, and they're supposedly flawed. so they think to themselves: "i have to a be a certain way, look a certain way. or else no one'll like me!" so they go so far beyond that they do these horrible acts to themselves. y'know? so yeah....

Posts like the above--unwitting knee-jerk apologies for misogyny--spell out the reason why songs like "Menocide" are needed. Otep's not in need of therapy, she's not sick. What _is_ sick is a society that condemns the oppressed for speaking out. What's sick is denying the sickening statistics we all know about, how many women are raped per hour, how many beaten in their homes, and so on, and so on. What's sick is condemning an artist for giving vent to emotions nearly every thinking and feeling entity of half the globe's population has felt at one time or another. The caricature of the "evil manhating dyke/feminist" is terribly convenient because it discredits the fact that it's EVERY woman. And so any woman that has a moment of pure unbridled rage--even if it's just in a song, not in actually going out and committing murder--is "crazy", "man-hating", etc. Same old bullshit propaganda. This all reminds me of when Body Count's "Cop Killer" came out--some whites completely missed the point of the song, the rage some in the black community felt toward police brutality. All they could do was shake their heads like disapproving old grannies, wondering why "those people" (blacks, women, gays, what-have-you) didn't just shut up already. Feel pity for these people...the more progress is made, the harder a time they're going to have of it.

This song... and every single one of the responses to it proves the hypocrisy and double standards of most women today. I have so much to say about this that I don't even know where to begin... I find it funny how women compulsively complain about how they're constantly "oppressed" and mistreated, and instantly attack anything in the media or otherwise that is even remotely criticizing women and label it woman hating or mysoginistic. Yet... when we have a song like this, or a shirt that says "boys are stupid, throw rocks at them", it's liberating? There are so many doble standards i'm not gonna even touch on it. Don't even try for a second to convince me that you would put up with a song whose message was "all women are whores, kill them all", so why should men have to put up with this? It's insanely hypocritical to call a rap video woman hating, yet call this liberating. Honestly, MENOCIDE. For christ sake, you can NOT get more sexist than that, even if you tried. Yet it's being praised while eminem is getting attacked for talking about killing one woman, not the entire gender. I personally think it has something to do with the fact that during high school you are brainwashed by your feminazi social teachers into thinking that the world hates women and is out to get you. I also find this part of the terms of service for this webpage interesting... "Be forewarned that racist/hateful comments and illegal material will be deleted at first notice by our staff. If you are thinking about posting something like this or that is hateful to others, don't waste your time typing it--it will be deleted." So you're not allowed to post hateful comments, but here we have an extremely hateful and misandric song, and nazi women praising it. What's going on here? I'm almost beginning to think that manhating is hardwired into women form birth.

All of you people saying "don't take it literally" have your head stuck in the ground. Are you seriously saying that this is a metaphor in some way? A metaphor for what, pray tell? Hamstertube is the only one with any sense that posted on here. This song is the embodiment of the whole manhating/bitter/radical feminist/dyke (yes, they do call themselves dykes so don't start) movement. Otep is a typical case. She was abused physically and emotionally by some guy as a child and now she's a manhating lesbian who projects her hate onto all men. This song sounds like it came straight out of the SCUM Manifesto (if you don't what it is, look it up. It's on the Internet for free). And all the 15-year old girls eat it up as if it's a song about "liberation" and look up to her as a hero. What a crap double-standard! Anyone who preaches genocide and total hatred of ANY group is off their rocker! Otep isn't a hero, she needs therapy and so does anyone else who thinks like her. The sad thing is, she's actually a talented vocalist. Too bad most of her lyrics (like these) ruin it. She needs help. BADLY.

Hamstertube, settle down. Seriously. Firstly, "Menocide" is not to be taken literally, obviously. Secondly, the fact reminds to this day that women -are- oppressed in many countries around the world. Perhaps it is not as common nor as blatant here in the western world, but look at all of the other nations where women are still considered less than human. Notice how this song mentions female circumcision and burnings? These things and countless other atrocities still happen everyday throughout the world. Women are tortured and slaughtered for the slightest deviation from subserviance. Open your fucking eyes. If you think a song like this constitutes Nazi-like behaviour, take a look at the fascist androcentric regimes that still thrive in our world. One cannot compare this song's message with that of Eminem's music. This is a political song, in my not so humble opinion, and there is nothing political or intellectual to be found in "smackin' bitches" or whatever crap with which you were vainly attempting to equate this.

Hamstertube, relax. It's a SONG. One of the purposes of writing and performing songs is to release tension and strong emotions. Just because Otep wrote a song about it doesn't mean she really wants to slaughter every man on earth (why would she if there's men in her band? Think about that...) and it certainly doesn't mean she hates them. Again, it's A SONG...yes, look at it, listen to it, search for it's meaning, but DON'T TAKE IT SO GODDAMN LITERALLY.

I'm with hamstertube here, I mean seriously, if a guy made a song called "femicide" they'd be stoned, this is the exact same thing as having one black guy do you wrong, and you hating all black people for that, that'd be dumb and racist, this song does exactly that, it's hating all men for what a select group of men did wrong to her. And I am in no way saying women aren't mistreated, they are, but put the blame on who deserves it, instead of picking one aspect of the person who did it, and blaming that, men are mistreated to, in fact i've been mistreated by alot of females, but i know much better then to hate all females because of that, i'll hate the select ones who've done me wrong. angry rant over.
