| When I first heard the song, I linked the RK interlude into it and thought the song was about his friends dying and them still somewhat haunting him. I always assumed that "all my friends alone on a hill" was referring to either the mound left on top of someones grave after they are buried or them looking down at the world from an angle. | |

| ... I fully have no clue what this song is about. The RK interlude before it talked about death and fearing death... And so for awhile I just assumed that's what it was about. But now I'm starting to think it's kinda like "Everyone's a Junkie"... kinda. The line "their mechanical thoughts have left them out on their own" is key. | |

| Cynicalgrrl, i totally know what you mean. if i ever mention olp to anyone, they're like, "oh my god, i LOOVE somewhere out there!" which is definately not one of their better songs. but, i love this whole cd...i think that this song is about how his friends are making these bad choices, he doesn't understand why, but there's nothing he can do about it. | |

| I totally agree, slingas17 . This whole album takes me to thoughts of, "What if in a world entirely computer dependant there were ever a major crisis, what would the survivors do next?" I love the RK intros every few songs, and after "A Wonderful Future" Molly and RK talking is...wow. Big Radiohead fan here, as well. For some reason, I didn't link Radiohead with this song at all until I read these comments. Now I definately need to go listen to it right now! | |

| I love this song =^.^= And I totally agree with Robc16. You can't just say that you hate someone just because of their choice of songs. Besides, I totally love OLP, I'm thinking about doing one of their songs with a band in our schools talent show XD. | |

| I absolutely love this song!! and i agree with CynicalGrrl, it sucks that a lot of people only know about the more popular songs when there's a ton of really great ones on all the albums... well anyway, All my Friends is one of my fav. songs | |

| Dude. Whoa. This is one of my favorite OLP songs ever. It's so fucking good! The lyrics, the vocals, the music... ahh! It's fecking awesome! It's so sad how everyone commented only on like, Somewhere Out There. It's cause they're all new OLP fans and that's all they know. I hate that shit. | |

| Drivenizzle have you even listened to Happiness....? The songs on that are of a similar style but...wierder. I have to say people saying that being a die hard OLP fan that saying you hate someone because they like a song is really bad and Somewhere Out There is an amazing song. This song is about someone wanting their friends to change when they obviously wont. | |

| One of their best songs ever, IMO. A very nihilistic philosophy expressed, but it resonates true. "Violent minds out on loan" speaks to a sense of brainwashing by society, people "just not equipped" to comprehend any sort of cosmic truth; people who don't want to look for the fear of what they might find. The author isn't afraid to see that truth, but has stopped making people try to see that truth: they don't want to and he's not waiting for them to make sense, i.e. see the nihilistic philosophy that governs the universe. Thus, they sit, alone on a hill, mechanically ticking away the hours in blissfull ignorance and forced denial. RK on death puts this song in perspective. Death gives meaning to life because there is nothing after it so one must embrace everything about life, even that it has no meaning. Forcing others to see that is futile. Moreover, If You Believe takes the opposite view: life has hope and "life force" if you will because a faith in an afterlife makes you strong. This album, song by song, essentially explores every perspective on life in all its parts, calling humans "spiritual machines" that can encompass faith within bare biological mechanisms, and neither inherently negates the other. The album finishes with "The Wonderful Future" expressing the hope that arises from any philosophy: "She's silicone with a touch of her soul/What do I know?" We may be machines, but we have souls and each aspect of humanity can--nay, must-- be embraced simultaneously to see the true and intricate beauty in the universe. Thoughts? Opinions? | |

| the album is based on 'the age of spiritual machines' at this part of the album machines have taken over and humans are left to try and survive on their own, but theyve become too dependant on machines and are not equiped.it just creates an image of surviving humans not knowing what to do next. | |

| One of the few songs I actually like on the CD. As far as I can interpret, it's about having friends who're on the path of a destructive, conformist, or unimaginative mindset, depending on your interpretation. You hope they'll change, and you wait, despite the hopelessness of them ever reaching a better, more open frame of mind. | |
