| I read somewhere that this song was written about Raine having homicidal urges to kill his friend but I guess they just got the story mixed up. anyways I think it's an awesome song. | |

| I thought this song was about Raine holding a gun for the first time and seeing his friend and wondering what it would be like to fire the gun. Then he talks about how disgusted he is with himself and how he's never felt like this before. He hates knowing that he is holding something that could kill someone and feeling like he could use it. He wants his friend to believe that he has never had these thoughts before and that he has never held a gun, ready to shoot, before. | |

| "This song is a true story about a friend of mine. We were down south staying at a friend's house and this one person had a really cool looking gun. He told me it was a Beretta. It's like a handgun, a real gun, right? So my friend is in the garage or is out in the back or something and I'm playing with this gun. I used to be this super huge Starsky and Hutch fan. So I'm holding the gun thinking I'm pretty cool I guess. I take the clip out because I don't want to hurt anyone obviously. So I put the clip back in the box thinking, I'm fine. So I go and sneak behind this corner and I can see him with my left eye and I'm gonna scare him when he comes by. So my left eye can see him, and my left eye sees him turning the corner, and I'm holding the gun like this, like Starsky would. And he comes around the corner and I say Bang! and he falls and he's almost in tears. He's laughing and crying, he's not sure what to do. I just pointed a gun at my best friend, alright? But everything's okay because I took the clip out. But I guess these Beretta's are famous for having 13 bullets and there's a bullet still in the chamber." Raine Maida | |

| i read a quote from raine that it was about this time his best friend was in the shower, and raine snuck in w/ a baretta pistol, but he had taken the clip out, and when his friend stepped out of the shower, he yelled "BANG!" and it dropped his friend to the floor...then raine held the gun to his friend's head, and his friend yelled "don't you know a baretta has 13 bullets and one in the chamber?!", it never said if he pulled the trigger or not...the story just ended there... | |

| This song is about the time Raine and his friend were kids playing with a gun. Raine didn't know it was loaded and it went off. The song is set in the moment right after the gun went off and Raine doesn't know if his friend is ok. Hes waited for his next breath to tell him that hes ok and hes praying to God for help, although he never has before. | |

| I completly understand the true meaning, the gun thing. But in my version, it's about someone that is too blinded by his surroundings that he can't see the obvious thing that is right in front of him. Oblivious. "the big dumb rocket on your mind" reprensents what the person's thinking about other than what is obvious. My opinion only! : ) | |

| I'm not trying to say the gun story is wrong. It's right. Just throwing out another interpretation I had. When I first heard this song when I was younger, I always thought it was about a guy getting together with the girl he wanted, but was afraid that all she wanted was sex. At the risk of sounding immature, the "Big Dumb Rocket" is a reference to his penis. Rocket is a common euphemism for a penis and so is a gun. It doesn't fit entirely, but like I said, it was just an initial interpretation you might find interesting. May sound immature but it does work. | |
