| i think that this song is saying that while happiness is good, too much of it can be boring. (which i think is totally true) i think that the line \"all the friends i\'ve lost in there\" is about friends who try to chase happiness by changing themselves to fit in or something | |

| Talking is just masturbating Without the mess.... ...I can't remember all the names Everyone you meet today Is just so fucking vain To me, the lines above say people speak just to please themselves, they tell other people about themselves, complain about their problems. But they could careless about what someone else has to say. Most conversations are artifical/pointless. The rest of the song, I think is pretty much what others have said. | |

| It seems to me that he's bored with his social life and how he's always happy, he wants something else. The feelings seem to switch from being happy to being sad and the feelings are presented in the song that it's boring. Or maybe it's about being bored with false friends. | |

| I confess Everyone is overweight And I'm obsessed Talking is just masturbating Without the mess ...... & unimpressed I can't remember all the names Everyone you meet today Is just so fucking vain.' I think that talks about the instant gratification culture we live in- people are overweight, because they don't exercise and eat poorly. And, like others have said, people talk and talk about who they know, and it winds up just being a bragging contest. 'Addiction leaves you sad today' I know this is dumb, but that just sounded so much like the line out of a fortune cookie to me :D 'Bored again by happiness All those friends I've lost in there I've lost in there.' I think this refers to complacency of people. Once they get settled in their lives, and do what they do, they begin to forget their friends. friendships become 'boring' because people forget about the times their buddies have helped them out of a jam, a point which I think is re-enforced by the last lines. 'Imagination can't resist The laziness That pins you down, get on your knees Everyone you meet today Is feeling useless & ashamed' Underneath the bragging, a lot of people have low self esteem and hate thier lives. To get to the top, people have done things they're ashamed of. They in turn are used by others trying to get to the top. | |

| this song is about how boring it can be to be happy all the time. if you are always happy, you begin to take it for granted, and thus the happiness becomes worthless. and so, as the band once commented, if you don't get depressed sometimes, you won't ever know how truly great life can be. at the same time, if you just let go of happiness because you're bored with it, it's incredibly difficult to just get back. and so there's the paradox, the catch-22 if you must. happiness can be bad if you have it non-stop, but if you let it go, it's really hard to get back. at least, that's what i got from this song. | |

| I think this song is about happiness and perfection is not the thing to strive for in life. Its good to be happy, but if you are always happy, then you become bored with it and not take it as the gist it actually is. | |

| to me the song comes from him saying that hes not happy but that everyone who is happy or rather that should be isnt happy either and that their "bored by happiness" and hes tellin them "happiness is not a fish that you can catch" its not somthing you can grab out of thin air.... happiness is not an object of possesion | |

| I agree with some of the earlier posts, it's about some people who just talk about themselves all the time and are "happy", but not truly. They just feel that they're superior, and get fake happiness (masturbating) by talking about how they're better than someone else. Anyway you look at it, "Talking is just masturbating without the mess" is one of my all time favorite lines in any song, hands down, & OLP is the best. | |

| "Talking is just masturbating Without the mess" lmao, I love that line. Anyways, this song, to me, is about the overall stress that society feels today. Life is so complicated and superficial that people don't even have true happiness anymore. Everyone is fucking vain. People try to make themselves happy with pride, vanity, and other things that are only fleeting and are rather fake. "Bored by happiness" refers to this; the joys people have today aren't really true happiness, because it's not a thing you can just gain. The only true way to be happy is just to be a good person, with people you love. Simplicity is best, stop trying to make life so complicated and stressful. :) | |

| most of you guys are spot on with the meaning. lyrics here are not too cryptic and that happiness doesn't come with just living, you have to create it yourself. it's sad that in today's world that people are too fuckin' lazy that they sit on their ass and expect things to come to them, i.e. happiness. i don't think anyone can say they are truly happy unless they are constantly achieving to be happy. you can't have it once and be done with it. material possessions, sex, money, etc. only go so far, but we need to live in higher demands of finding happiness. i think raine achieves this message beautifully in one of the best songs (in my opinion) of all time. | |

| i love this song. i think the line "talking is just masturbating without the mess" is the main meaning. they are saying that the mindless happiness of getting a new car, watching a really cool big-screen TV, or talking mindlessly with your friends is the same shallow meaningless pleasure as masturbating. Maida is tired of this false happiness and desparately looking for something more fulfilling. | |

| "Happiness is not a fish that you can catch" That's another main lyrics in the song. Happiness is not easy to have. People have a lot of fronts which they show through their expensive vices but it's all vanity and in reality, they're not really happy. | |

| This song to me has a very simple meaning - Happiness is not something that can simply be aqcuired, it is not something that can be bribed or captured - like a fish. | |

| Money corrupts, he's talking about whatching people he knows get rich and how it changes them. How they buy everything they want, and are bored with catalog purchased happyness they have. "talking is just like masterbating", refering to how much pleasure they take in braging about the things they own. And the vanity and feelings of superiority they have through money. great song... | |
