Song: Stealing Babies
Band: Our Lady Peace
Album: Happiness...Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch
Words By: Raine Maida
Music By: OLP & Elvin Jones
Tabbed By: Matt Finateri
TUNING - eb Bb Gb Db Ab Eb (1/2 step down)
There are a couple more versions of this song on the net, but this
one is more accurate. I taped the I&I on MuchMusic, and found that
this is the way Raine plays it...or very close to.
I?m not sure about the lyrics at the end of the song. I?m pretty
sure he says "I?ve been weighed down," though he could be saying
"I?ve been way down."

| I also heard in an interview that this song was about AIDS. Raine said that he was once watching a documentary type show late one night about children who were suffering with AIDS, he said that he sat up all night crying and decided to write this song. | |

| the jellybrick thing too sounds good. and yeah..there's not one RIGHT interpretation. If an artist wanted a specific message sent out, it wouldn't be so...thick, so to speak. | |

| I saw OLP in concert just before their one man army cd came out and raine told the audience what the song was about before he sang it. He said it was about a real sick mother f$%^&*, a televangelist and by being a televangelist he was getting in our kids minds and in essence stealing babies be filling their heads with all the bible bullshit- intolerance, predjudice, homophobia, things like that. | |

| i always thought it was about a man pleading to his suicidal girlfriend/wife to not kill herself. he describes in the first verse how he can't leave her alone anywhere or not worry about her, and asks how he could make it better. in the chorus, she keeps attempting to, but then is talked out of it by a friend on the phone. | |

| This is probably the most incredible OLP song to date. I had a hard time dealing with the weird jazz breakdown at first, but now I've come to love every single part of this amazing song. Oh yeah, if you think Gravity sucks, then you're crazy. Isn't a band allowed to change and evolve over time? Musicians are just like anybody else and they get really tired of just doing the same thing over and over again. Give OLP props for going out on a limb and taking the chance of working with a new producer and streamlining their sound a little bit. They've worked hard for a long time and deserve the success they are finally getting. | |

| wow, that adam/eve story is pretty interesting. I like it! The televangelist thing is pretty cool too. Now, i've heard a different version. At one conert, raine said that Eve was a little girl who developed HIV on her ninth blood transfusion and instead of getting busy dying, she traveled around the world and talked to other sick children and tried to explain to them why they were being taken away from the earth at such a young age. Anyways, whatever it's about, it's a great great song. And the little jazz breakdown at the end is one of the best parts of any song. | |

| Raine has stated numerous times on stage that this song is written to God (even though he has also stated he doesn't believe in a religious god), about how God can kill babies with AIDS and how it just doesn't make sense. And yeah, the lines in the epilogue portion should read: It must be our egos, it must be my lack, Of faith that it might not come back. x2 | |

| I heard somewhere that this song was about AIDS. When you listen to the lyrics it really seems like it could be. The AIDS crisis in Africa, well really the whole world but specifically Africa, with all the children being born infected, really reflects this song. This song is very powerful, I like the sound of it, for about the first two minutes, then it kinda gets weird. They are still my favorite band though. | |

| Now, Ive always gone in a different direction with this song. I'm not really sure what it means but listening to the lyrics, I think of Eve as a mother getting a phone call and slowly going insane. Why? Well, it is because her son has been drafted into the army and has gone off to war to die. Maybe, who knows, a lot of interesting opinions about this song, I love the site, very helpful. But yeah, I think this is an anti-draft song. | |

| Lilith is the woman who gives little boys "wet dreams".. in all seriousness. She has sometimes been said to be the devil. Adam didn't like that she was equal so God banished her from the garden and such.. I didn't know anyone else knew of that story. Oh well. | |
