Comments By The Author:
It's not a hard song to play, just some standard bar chords.
Be careful with the rhythm though,
listen to your CD to get it right!

The song hasn't anything to do with religion. It may refer to the story of Lilith, but infact it's about AIDS and how it's killing millions all over the world. The people with AIDS then give birth to infected children and they can't survive. Raine has said this at OLP shows. Errr, just read up and saw jellybrick already explained it...oh well.

The Adam, Eve and Lilith thing is probably not what this is about, but it does have some interesting coincidences. I think it's more the AIDS and HIV reasoning. but, the Adam, Eve, and Lilith story is something like this: God makes Adam, so, Adam is in the garden, Adam is lonely, so, God makes Lilith just like was stated, with mud and dirt and stuff, she's also like part sea snake and stuff. But then, a demon named Samael tricks Lilith in to thinking she's Adams equal, or better (as Lucifer did) but God's like, no, I made Adam in my image, not you. so God banishes her, and makes Eve to be more loyal. Lilith is then taken in by Samael, and they become a demonic Adam and Eve of sorts, and, yes, Lilith does go and start stealing Eve's babies, and then Samael (or Lucifer) convinces her to steal the forbidden fruit (as a snake) to ward of Lilith. God then banishes Adam and Eve. Lilith was then passed from faith to faith for a long time. in some, she steals ears. in some, she gives wet dreams. in some she steals babies. in some she's a red haired witch that has siren like abilities. the list goes on and on, she is in most major religions.

I also thought about Lilith at first: stealing babies+Eve standing at the door, some coincidence..

The lyrics should be corrected. The correct end lines are: It must be our egos It must be my lack of faith that it might not come back. x2 But anyways, I heard Raine tell the Eve AIDS girl story too. I know Lying Awake is about a televangelist though.

I really do believe that this song is about God 'working in mysterious ways.' Especially because of this section: You're leaving pieces of family How are you going to help them understand I'm screaming while you're stealing babies Why do you want to knock us down again Why How should I say "I'm so sorry" How should I pray to know that we're alive In the last two lines-- It's definitely part of the Christian religion to ask for forgiveness, and then praying. I think the song is talking about how we say that God collected them so to say, not just kids, but when a adult gets cancer too. Or aids, or whatever. We're all Children of Adam and Eve.

Anyone who's seen 'Musicians in the Warzone' will know that Raine and his wife went to some African country (I forget which one sorry). It might be in response to that, who knows.

I can't get enough of this song, it seems. It is amazing how they pulled the whole thing together so nicely, and how it flows from rift to rift. The lyrics are also incredable, like all of olp's songs. And yes, it is about aids and how its killing so many people around the world..

Has anyone ever heard of the legend of eve and lilith? the story (written well after either testament, and no I'm not a christian but I'm fascinated by the stories) goes like this. Lilith was adam's original wife, formed out of mud and clay at the same time as him. But she was his equal in many ways and adam didn't like it. I'm not exactly sure what happens next, but she gets banished from eden and becomes a demon. Then god decides to make a more subservient companion out of adam's rib: eve. Lilith keep stealing eve's babies though, and raising them as her own, and they become demons. I'm not exactly sure where all this leads, but it's interesting to know a possible background.

GAH! I love this song! One of my favorite drummers in the world Elvin Jones! Truley one of the best Jazz drummers ever to live :D OLP has such taste ^o^ I always thought of this song as just saying someone was stealing their innocence away.

This is a very powerful song about the death of young children. Raine is mad at God for allowing infants to die. He says God is stealing babies, and he argues that they're not even old enough to apologize for their sins or even to know that thier alive, they die before they're ever even alive. Eve is just an example of one young person dying.
