"Thief"
Our Lady Peace
Dylan Presley (DarkKarma17@aol.com)

this is possibly my favorite song, and so thus, I just thought I'd write a cleaned up version
of the tab that I had scribbled on some paper for myself...here it goes

If it is a power chord I'll list it as ?5...half step down
so the voicings are as if it were standard....easy enough? I think so

in example
if I say G

but G5 is

Intro/verse (alternate between picking parts 1 and 2)

Picking part 1 (intro, verse)

Picking part 2 (intro, verse)
--------2----
--3--3----3--

The bass is playing the notes D, A, B, G
so there is a faint guitar in the background playing D, A, Bm, G

There are two prechorus', well depending how you look at it..

Prechorus #1
"Last thing you wanted"
F#5, G5

Prechorus #2
"this will not go away"
Bm, Asus, E (hold)

"there's a house, built out in space"
G, A#(or well not the exact name), Dsus4 xx0233, D

Chorus (last two chords have two counts, not 4)
Em, C5, D5, G5, F#5
Em, C5, G5, D5, E5

Bridge
"but I can be all, be all"
Em, Cadd9

Verse again

Prechorus'

Chorus

Bridge #2? well ok something like that, it's another change
"It's a long long getaway...make it home again"
Asus, C, G, D
Asus, C, G

Chorus (one last time!)

Another bridge, or maybe it's the "pre-outro" heh
"but I can be your, be your"
Em, C, G, D x2

Outro
Asus x3, Am, Asus (hold)

Spot on gentlemen. First I heard this I thought it was a brain tumour case. Spot on. Anyway about the video, I don't think there's too much to think about. Thier sitting outside in a concrete "garden" so to speak in the rain and none look all that happy. So what could we infer from this? Simply that the little girl didn't make it (ala the opening text) and the boys are outside the hospital down in the dumps and the rain signifies the tears of heaven cried over the loss of an innocent child. But then again I could be wrong since I'm just a sentimental old fart.

My boyfriend introduced me to this song and I can't thank him enough. I cry every time I listen to it. But then I also thought about how it's a happy song as well as sad. Even though this untimely and unfair death is happening, OLP is saying that she's going to a better place where she will be at peace. Definitely my absolute favorite song. I love you Todd

wow i didnt realize it was written about an actual person, but i always understood the jist of the song, about something inside her head taking away her life and no one could do anything about it. but you could also look at it from a psychological point instead of physiological, and conclude that maybe, if this girl was a young adult, depression or another mental disorder that we dont really understand had taken over her life. like a tumor, mental disease steals away life without reason
