Whatever - Our Lady Peace
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artist: Ourlady Peace
Song: Whatever
Tabbed by: ZeroisGreatman
Tunning: DADGBE

[Personal Note:](Ok, I like to point out that I haven't heard this song, ever in it's
entirty[Hence the Intro only thing], however, I'm a huge wrestling fan of Chris Beniot,
and I hear this song all the time whenever he comes out... So, sorry if I'm missing some
parts of the song...)

Intro: Now, there is a very unique technique to playing the intro. It requires a lot
of sustain to pull off (so it would be a good idea to use a good amount of reverb and
distortion). You have to play the D note as mentioned on the tab, but in order to make
the sound after the note, you have to go to the 10th fret, and hold the note with your
finger, but not push your finger down, just a slight bit of pressure. This way, when
you try to strum that not, you have the sound effect of the note, without the actual
playing of the note. I'll put an "p" where this note would be played.(I think this
technique is called pitch harmonics, but I'm not exactly sure.)

[Remember p= 10th fret noise]

e|----------------------|

Verse: Now, this is actually a bass riff, played with a whole bunch of wierd guitar
pitches...I'll post both. You can play the bass riff with an octave pedal.

"There's no holding me back"
(Bass riff)
G|------------------------------|
D|------------------------------|
A|------------------------------|
D|-5-5-5-5-10--5-5-5-5-10--5-10-|

(Guitar riff): This is sort of hard to play, remember the whole "p" note thing? Well,
it's like that, I'll post the chords that you play...BUT DON'T ACTUALLY PLAY THEM, just
put slight pressure, and let the sustain and distortion do the rest.

e|-0----0----0----0-|
B|-3----1----3----2-|
G|-2----0----4----3-|
D|-0----0----0----0-|
A|------3----2----1-|
D|------------------|

Pre-chours: Same as the Intro Riffs

Chorus: "But whatever you get..."
e|-----------------------------------------|
B|-6-6-6-6-6-6--8-8-8-8-8--3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-|
G|-5-5-5-5-5-5--7-7-7-7-7--2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|
D|-3-3-3-3-3-3--5-5-5-5-5--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|
A|-3-3-3-3-3-3--5-5-5-5-5--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|
D|-3-3-3-3-3-3--5-5-5-5-5--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-|

Post chorus riff: Ok, this is after the chorus is over...It's sort of like a slide
between 2 D chords of 2 different octaves. You strum the first sort of broken D chord,
but you don't actually strum the second one, you just slide to it, and use some vibrato,
in order to play this note the way it sounds on the track. Sustain will help it make
the noise sound better(or at least hear it being played.)

e|-------|
B|-3/15~-|
G|-2/14~-|
D|-------|
A|-------|
D|-------|

Then the Intro repeats itself.

This is like the first 45 secs - 1min of the song...So, it's mostly just the intro.

Any who, any body who wants to add any comments, corrections, etc, Please feel free to
do so. If you want to use my Intro tab, to put into a full version, it's ok, but please
put my name on the tab you use.
Anyway, I hope all of you Our lady of peace/Chris Beniot fans enjoy.

This song is one of the greatest entrances made for the WWF. It was made for one of the greatest wrestlers in the WWF also, Chris Benoit.

Everytime I hear Whatever I think of WrestleMania XX... My favourite wrestler, Benoit's win showed you can live your dream if you try hard, day and night. It's not only wrestling, it's a lesson about life. It's about you can prove anyone wrong. He was told he would never do it, he would never be "the man"... Well, there he was, with his late friend Eddie Guerrero, both the top guys in the business, both the World Champions... It was a moment when I think the WWE bookers, Chris and Eddie told us "Hey, bust your ass and you can do it, no matter what people tell you". Anyway, great song. And Benoit's attitude is just like this song. He shows it everytime he enters the ring, with this song in the background. You should try to find something deeper in wrestling than just the easy "It's fake" argument. They teach you about life, and how to be successful.

i love it when people call wrestling fake... lol. it's judging the sport for something it's not even intended to be. it's entertainment, any sports entertainer (wrestler) will tell you that. as an independent wrestler myself, i say go ahead, poke fun. you're just never going to get it. (laughs to himself.) but yeah, this song definitely personafies Benoit to a 't.' love it.

This song is a great one, my favorite from OLP, and it is very fitting for Chris Benoit, I am a WWF/WWE fan and I love chris benoit. But this song, its about a person who has had enough and is now fighting, and will not stop, he will continue fighting until he reaches his dreams pretty much, very fitting...this song mixed with the ending of Wrestlemania, back in 2004 was awesome...the song fit the ending...when Benoit raised the belt over his head...I loved that moment mixed with this music, it inspired me so much.

1stly, F*** ALL WRESTLING HATERS(just kiddin'), Chris Benoit is awesome and so is this song. Seeing Benoit put someone in a Sharpshooter or Crossface, and in the process make the opponent Tap, deserves a Kick ass song.

to all the people dissing on wrestling, dont knock it until you try it. You get a whole new respect for what they do once you get into it. You try taking one bump, expecting the matress like quality of the ring that everyone thinks it is. Well its maybe an inch of thin padding on wood. And it doesnt feel too good. Anywho, this song is just badass.

First off, damn good song, driving guitar, good lyrics. For me the song is just saying that there is not a thing in hell that could stop the speaker of the lyrics. Whatever they want, they're eventually gonna get. The lyrics also just fit Benoit both as a persona and as a real person.

Wrestling's not fake, it's scripted. Totally different things. Shows, News, movies, they are all mostly scripted, yet you don't see these people complain about them. They are just ignorant hypocrites. But that's just an opinion of mine. I dare anyone here to try jump about 13 feet and get kicked in the chin by HBK like Shelton did. Or, even have the balls to jump 30+ feet onto a matress which is hidden under an inch or two of wood like Shane McMahon used to do. Then, if you still say it's fake, I'll give you your respect. On a brighter side, Whatever and Chris Benoit kick SO much ass!

The WWF! HAHAHAHAHA Oh man! I feel sorry for the world when I see the stupidity that worships this "sport". Yeah so they work out and work real hard to be buff and learn stunts, but why not do something usefull with it instead of trying to use their lack of acting skills to pretend to beat others up? On another note: This song is one of the best ever! Not because it so perfectly describes my favorite wrestler!(sarcasm) but because it helps get the frustrations out.

One thing everyone forgets, yes it is scropted, but it's just as, if not more real than any other tv show they watch! That's something peple forget, most court shows split the payments between the "plaintiff and defentant" many reality shows are actually heavily scripted, and besides all that, it's Wordl Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT! I agree with the 3 posters before me. Back on the topic of the song: It's about a person who, hell or high water, will not be stopped.

I'm wondering if the wrestling haters here ever watch TV, go to the movies, go to a play, etc... OMGWTFBBQ Y U WATCH THAT CRAP ITS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FAKE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!oneoneoneeleven Seriously, though, Benoit is one of the greatest wrestlers ever, and this song fits him so well, both his character (no-nonsense ass-kicker who really doesn't care about playing to the crowd or really much of anything besides wrestling) and himself (somebody who worked his entire life just for the chance to find his dream, never giving up no matter what got in his way). It's a really inspiring song for anybody who's ever had a dream to chase, an obstacle to overcome, a hill to climb.

I love this song. Ah, I discovered OLP from this song, love the band now. I discovered this song from Benoit. The thing is about all the wrestler haters, I was brought up in a town that despised wrestling and I was taught by parents and everyone else "Oh, it's fake, see that, it's fake". Then I always watched the station "USA" for Law & Order. RAW started coming on it, and I saw some crazy stuff and I was like "Wow, you can't fake that". I started watching Smackdown! and now ECW, now that it's back, I've also downloaded many of the historical moments in wrestling history. For anyone who thinks wrestling's fake, watch WrestleMania 22 and watch HBK jump off the 20ft ladder onto Vince McMahon, no way to fake that stuff. It's a very dangerous business, and yeah it is scripted, that doesn't matter.

People who hate wrestling hate it for all the wrong reasons. The biggest reason: ignorance with a large order of stupidity. "OMG WWF SUX0RZ LOLOL DEY R JUST BIG SWEATY MEN LOLZ". Yeah, we get it, you're an idiot. Just stop talking. I love this song, and I love OLP.

This is definitely one of the best songs I've heard. It's all about getting to your goal while ignoring any distractions. So, you want to be a rock star, but drugs tempt you. Say 'Whatever', ignore the drugs and shred with your guitar, or rip it up with the drums. Note: Chris Benoit is lucky to have this theme song. It clearly shows his dedication to the business.

Yes, wrestling is scripted. But it takes so much agility, stamina and toleration of pain to be a wrestler. You have to go out every night and suffer injuries constantly, while not letting it effect you or your persona. As for the song, the Live version is awesome.
