ZeroKid, i'd like to see you sing better if you had Aspergers... This is a well written song by Outkast, im a rock fan and have been all my life but this song stood out. Knowing Craig he was probably stoned and started singing the song, it is a catchy tune after all. But what they did to it was, in my mind, a masterpiece. Chord progression, melody carried by keyboards and a three part vocal line, with exceptional harmonies and counter -melodies. You need to be musically trained to understand, its pure simplicity. Just wanted to post that cuz people fighting over who did the better version is stupid, they're two completely different songs, musically, just the same lyrically.

You have to be shitting me! Hey Ya had zero rock influence for one thing, and for another it was wack as fuck. That whole double album was shit. Andre 3000 stopped flowing (which he is awesome at) and Big Boi lost all the down to earth style that made Outkast what they are. Seriously, the Vines version is a horrible interpetation of what is meant to be a Hip Hop song. Oh, and well done, you can dismiss an entire Genre of music because Kerrang/NME/whatever horrible magazine you read told you to

This song is very good. I have always thought of Outkast as a weel-rounded, very original rap duo, from their selection of beats & rhythms, lyrical content, even clothing. I particularly like the opening reverse synth & drums, and the piano sample that adds a hint of sadness. Nonetheless, the lyrics are straight foward for the most part, although the 2 MCs seem to be dealing with their own "baby mama dramas". Where Big Boi seems to be frustrated in a struggle to carry on a neutral relationship with his baby mama for the sake of the child having 2 parents, Andre is apologetic for the mutual loss of love/interest that once existed between him and the mother of his child, yet pledges to keep an active role as a father. As far as all those who gave a negative comment about this song, feel free to compare this song to whatever cover the Vines may have done of it, but don't ignorantly discard it as trash because you fail to embrace hip-hop music. Someone posted this song had"way too much hip-hop influence" yet "Hey Ya was OK because it had a rock influence". Don't disrespect entire genres of music simply because you have an affinity for a certain type or fail to recognize talent in others.

The actual meaning is that Dre had a child with singer Erykah Badu out of wedlock. This song is a message to Badu's mother, whose actual name is Kolleen Wright. Ms. Jackson is a name that they made up.

the vines are awesome and craig nicholls is an awesome singer. So his vocals are harsher then Andre 3000 but rap sucks major balls and this song isnt really an exception. Wayyy too much hiphop influence. Hey Ya was ok because it actually had like a rock influence but this is just annoying. Yeah its better then Ludacris and stuff but its annoying. and rock is a lot better then rap these days im sorry to say so really rap isnt in any position to critize rock.

im just wondering if bigboi is actually saying he fucked her during this - much easier to understand it as her trying to get him to advocate for her and him telling her to screw off, but those words could definitely mean otherwise "Now you and your girl ain't speakin no more cause my dick all in her mouth Knahm'talkinbout? Jealousy, infidelity, envy Cheating to beating, envy and to the G they be the same thing So who you placin the blame on, you keep on singin the same song Let bygones be bygones, you can go on and get the hell on You and your mama"

deadlywombat you are dumbfuck just for saying that. Outkast wrote the original song a few years ago. then vines took the great song that mrs jackson is, used their shit-singer's voice to fuck up the song, then managed to fuck it up even more by giving it a shitty rock sound. dont ever fucking accuse outkast of ripping shit from anyone, they are some of the few groups out their who are making original music and not the same garbage that everyone is shitting out of their ass.

I'll have to be really dissagreeing with you on this one. But maybe they have an edited version (totally not!!!) where you're from, but it gets on my nerves whenever I hear it, but I don't like hiphop 'n stuff in general either, soooooo.....

the outkast version was okay, but given I am not a big fan of hip hop, the vines version suits more to my liking ... It puts a totally different feel to the song... i love it, has an eerie feel to it. yeh, the vines version kicks...

Yeah the vines version is terrible and completely bastardizes the song. In an interview they said Ms. Jackson was just a name used to represent all of the mother's out there and it's basically an apology/tribute for all the shit they're put through.

The song is about getting a chick pregnant and then having to face her mother. He's trying to explain to "Ms. Jackson" that they may not have planned the baby but that doesn't mean that he doesn't love the baby and want to care for it.

As for the actual meaning... which it seems that a whole three people have addressed, if that many... I'm not sure I get the last verse. After reading it I think I kinda get it but... can anyone clear this part up for me? Also, I like the last two lines of the first verse "And know this, know that everything's cool, and yes I will be present on the first day fo school, and graduation." I see two ways to look at this... either they're trying to portray a high schooler who saying that he's going to finish school and (presumbaly) be able to provide for the child. OR He's saying that he'll be there when the kid first goes to school, and when he graduates. Basically saying that he won't run out on them. Either way is good, I think, but I'd like other people's thoughts.
