For people who are new to tapping... All you have to do is tap the fret and pull-off
a finger on your picking hand (usually the middle finger because your holding the plectrum,
though
the guy who plays this uses his index) whilst keeping a finger on your fretting hand
on the fret your going to be pulling off onto.

| okay njhunter. i signed up just so i could set some things straight haha. pretty lame. but please define hardcore. To me there is thousands even millions of people who argue points that seem all the same to me. "These guys aren't hardcore", "These guys destroy music"....and so on. In this particular area you are arguing the point that hardcore is lost because this band (Parkway Drive) is signing about love and suicide issues. And you state that other new era "Hardcore" bands are doing the same. Now dude, define your interpretation of hardcore. I'm assuming you haven't been around since its beggining or you didnt start the movement so it should be interesting. But ey, I didnt start the movemenet or anything but i read your vocab fueled arguments (pretty impressive and good) but want to know what is good hardcore, what is good metal and so forth. Tell us about the bands "Whoe havent lost it champ"? Music is always going to change its something that we cant deny. But just because it changes and differs from its same genre groups doesnt mean they are not apoart. I'm sure you know refused (all good music fans should!) they wrote genius music. New noise for instance most intelliegent thing in a while. they wrote a song years in the past that sounds like everything we hear today. The song as they named it new noise not new genre or new group. NEW NOISE. | |

| Hai2u, ok so this is my personal view of hardcore, a type of music that is not mainstream, musically and lyrically likewise, and is there for people to let all their emotions out when listening to it or at a show etc. Now, I personally dont have a problem with love songs, sing all you want about break ups and lovey dovey stuff, but I dont think it has a place in hardcore. When hardcore first came into the scene in the late 80's it was all about hating the government, police and religion, smashing shit up and basically had an anti-authority message in it. I believe this is true hardcore as it has always been more about the lyrics than the actual music, getting a message across and not some dude crying about his love life, leave that to other genres of music ie pop, rock, blues and grunge etc. When parkway came onto the scene in late 2004, their lyrics were different, which was welcome at the time, but now it seems every screamo/punk/metal/hardcore band is doing it. You can have to much of a bad thing! I think its time we got back to the true meaning of hardcore and leave the emo whiners who want to hear songs about break ups and relationships that went awry to listen to their rock/pop/emo music. I know my band, Imprisoned thought, have grown sick of the latest hardcore lyrics and choose to write words that matter and to have a message, our message is our disdain for religion and the concept of "god" and the social misery it causes. But thats just one dudes opinion, you all have your own so please dont attack me with hate comments lol. | |

| mr kearney1, indeed i have read and even quoted 'romance is dead' if you didn't notice. it pretty much denounces the lyrics they were already writing (as quoted) which is pretty hard to take seriously. if gw bush suddenly said that his troops were out of iraq and that iraq is free of the US, wouldn't you still think of the imperialism that happened in the first place and how fucked up it was? although ultimately, to be fair, it is a turn for the better and perhaps they can turn to more relevant topics. i mean, isn't that what punk and hardcore was all about? rebelling against the mainstream thought? not conforming? | |

| an excellent argumentive there ImCoolLikeYou, my views are now completely inverted. but just to keep you angry and culturally prejudiced here's some example's i've pulled out: "Choking on our misery. Splinters of failure cut like glass. But I’ll put it to rest tonight in the hope that maybe I wont have to wake." "Another nigth wasted wishing you away Now im cut, im cut at the wrists but i still cant kill the pain" and then contradict yourself with a statement like: "So serenade her with your last pathetic suicide love song." THAT'S why hardcore is naive. i'm not saying all hardcore is naive but as someone whose been listening to it for a while and a dedicated fan of the social and political messages that have come from hardcore. i could throw in some words about the fact that punk and hardcore are slowly cutting off the whole 'DIY' ethic that is like the crucial point of the culture but i'll keep it simple. | |

| pride777, hey man, I am not a hardcore elite but I have been a huge fan and devotee of punk and hardcore music. It has been a learning curve for me particularly bands like minor threat, dead kennedies, good clean fun, propagandhi, ignite, kid dynamite, black flag and paint it black is a new favourite. Bands like these have taught me through their lyrics. For me hardcore is an aggressive noise with inspiration to oppose against impulses and conformities and defy the mainstream thought on a social level, through DIY-based music and culture. It has taught me to have an opinion and don’t be afraid to not conform. And yeah, Refused are definitely an awesome band and a new noise is definitely something to cherish (reminding that I have not ditched PWD’s music but only the lyrics). Jack Grisham of TSOL once said that N.W.A was ‘punk’ pertaining to defiance as a lifestyle or a method and more than just music. You could look at it that way as well. Hardcore punk from that I believe is more aggression and noise fuelled by dissent and rebellion to issues. My view isn’t gospel but this is what I see in hardcore, not ropes tied to triggers. So what I write could only be my opinion and this is it. …but speaking of opposition, sir ckyalliance, why the hell can’t I give my personal comments/oppose? Isn’t that the whole point of critique? It’s what I’ve learned from punk and hardcore. I mean if everyone was just saying ‘yeah, PWD kicks ass’ then what’s the point of reading on? A bit of solidarity and that’s it. I’m not attention seeking at all, no one here is, maybe if I came on and said ‘PWD are shit, end of story’ but I didn’t, and I’ve even said that the music and shows are awesome. So let people debate it. I am stating my opinions and I am totally open to hear opposition from people. To level with you I was pretty harsh at times so hey, I’ll keep that harshness to myself then. But what do you think about it? Tell me your thoughts. You can call me a loser or whatever but why not give your point of view instead? | |

| Yawn. Every band goes on about love issues and create these metaphorical death scenarios. It never changes. What has hardcore become? It's so goddamn naive these days. The music and live show is great but yeesh, ditch the stupid lyrics. And stop advocating suicide, it's pathetic. | |

| njhunter, you are an idiot. read romance is dead and then tell me that they are for suicide and emo lyrics. I am from Cleveland, Ohio and I just heard of this band out in the states, they are easily my favorite band. I hop these guys do some major promoting in the US and tour. | |
