Intro: This could be bass, but on guitar it is a 3rd fret on the low E string.

G6sus2 A
On an icy island north
C
In the woods beside the church
G
We can bury crills and lockets - filled with dirt
A C
And when the April thaws
Em Cadd9 C
Brings us out again
Em Cadd9 C
We can bless the arrows
Em Cadd9 C
And the sun won't stall
Em Cadd9 G
And the land will never fall

G6sus2 A
On virgin fields we'll skate
C
Snap our children we'll create
G
But the artic wind breeze ends
A C
And windmills thrill - into the threshing floor
Em Cadd9 C
You can't thresh the snow
Em Cadd9 C
When the snow is ending
Em Cadd9 C
There's no deep vine grove
Em Cadd9 G
You can't see the blankets go

G6sus2 A
Everything I did was right
C
Everything I said was wrong
G
Now we're waiting for the night
A C
To bring the dawn - into the only room
Em Cadd9 C
Where the fire's warm
Em Cadd9 C
Where we keep our vices warm
Em Cadd9 C
And that's all that's left
Em Cadd9 G
All that's left is vices torn

the most buried gem of indie. Glad I know this one. It's so balanced that when you get to the end, you can fall so far down, because you know the vice is torn. It's a long and lovely lonely plunge.

This song is about the performances of rituals and ceremonies to bring about a brief glimpse of Spring, where we celebrate life and growth. Like in a cold winter, the singer is alone at night, performing rituals in his head in the hopes that he can summon back his true love, who will come like the Spring but will leave again for his desire to retreat back into te solace of the cold of winter will return. And the cycle goes on.
