here it is...it might be tuned differently, but i think i got it.
the guys in my band get pissed cause i play it all the time now.
also, there are some notes in the intro here that aren't on the album
version, but are on STRAY SLACK and make it sound cooler i think.
In the Mouth of A Desert
from the Matador recording "Slanted & Enchanted"
By our boys, Pavement

A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Play part A twice....then part B 2 and a half times for the intro before the
distortion kicks in at "can you treat it like an oil well?"
then these chords play...open or barre which ever you choose.
C-----Em----G----Bm
I think Malkmus must be tuned differently, or I just suck at transcribing,
because I can't tell what the hell he plays during "It's what I want.." those
two little chords. dammit
the little solo goes something like this.
E-----------------------------10---------------------------------------------------------------10---12---10---8-
B-7---8---7---8---7---8--------7---8---7---8---7---8-------7---8---7---8---7---8--------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------------------------7-----------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It does that a couple of times, the they break loose into the solo/jam ending
in a C chord
'like i said before, he might be in a different tuning, but this is the best
i can do for now.
if you post this anywhere, tell people where you got it..i'm proud that i
figured this out by ear..hehehehe
also, if any one else has any suggestions for other transcriptions, Email me
at KEANONL@aol.com and pulp.action@frag.fileshop.com

| "Can you treat it like an oil well When it's underground, out of sight?" it's hidden and very valuable "And if the site is just a whore-sign Can it make enough sense to me?" but if it's just something pretentious or arrogant is it really worth anything? "Pretend the table is a trust-knot We'll put our labels down, favors down" tell the truth "I'll watch a yarn of twine unravel And you'll never get it back" you'll reveal yourself and you'll regret it "it's what i want" through "make a try" i want to know the truth and i could guess at it "I've been crowned the King of It And It is all we have, so wait To hear my words And they're diamond-sharp I could open it up And it's up and down" i am the master of what we have so listen to what i say even if it is harsh because i could show people the reality put together it's hidden and very valuable but if it's just something pretentious or arrogant is it really worth anything? tell the truth, you'll reveal yourself and you'll regret it. i want to know the truth and i could guess at it. i am the master of what we have so listen to what i say even if it is harsh because i could show people the reality. it could be about anything, it's not really specified. it could be about pretentious indie rock bands, the "truth" being if anyone actually likes them, but the subject isn't really clear. anyway there's what i can make of it. | |

| A lot of Malkmus' lyrics are abstract. | |
