Subject: Complete tab for ALIVE by Pearl Jam

I hereby submit my tab version of ALIVE by Pearl Jam, in an attached file.
It is written for 2 guitars, and it includes the solo, but played in a
different manner than the solo already present in OLGA.
There are a few tabs of ALIVE at OLGA, but they are incomplete or incorrect.
My tab also is not 100% perfect, but I think it comes close.

ALIVE - PEARL JAM

Tabbed by Visscher@alg.frg.eur.nl

OK, it is not 100% correct, but I think it suffices.
I've broken the song down in a few pieces (intro, verse 1, chorus, verse 2,
chorus, bridge, `quiet part', chorus, guitar solo), and at the beginning of
each part, I briefly describe what the two guitars have to do. Then the
tabs of that part follow).
The guitar solo can already be found at OLGA, and it is correct. However, I
have included a somewhat different version, because I'm not that good in
bends and releases. My version therefore is easier, but it sounds like the
real thing.
I hope that everything is clear, but questions, comments, suggestions etc.
are welcome!

Gtr.1 repeats Fig.1, while Gtr.2 joins in with Fig.2a and 2b. After this,
Gtr.1 plays Fig.3a, and Gtr.2 simultaneously plays Fig.3b.)

VERSE 1
(Gtr.1 plays Fig.1 twice, Fig.4 once, Fig.1 once. Gtr.2 simultaneously
plays Fig.2b eight times, but the last chord (A) is replaced by another
(Asus4). I will call this Fig.2c. After this, Gtr. and 2 play the first bar
of Fig.3 twice, but they treat it as a 4/4 bar instead of a 2/4 bar.)

note so that the bar is 4/4 instead of 2/4

CHORUS
(Gtr.1 plays Fig.5 three times, but the last bar always changes. I call the
first time it is played Fig. 5a, the second time 5b, and the third time 5c.
Simultaneously, Gtr.2 plays Fig.6 three times. Then Gtr.1 sustains the last
note of Fig.5c, while Gtr.2 plays a B chord.)

ously play Fig.6 four times)

BRIDGE
(Gtr.1 sustains the last note of Fig.5c for 1 bar, and then plays a F#
chord. Simultaneously (starting when Gtr.1 is sustaining the note), Gtr.2
plays Fig.7. Then Gtr.1 plays Fig.8a, and Gtr.2 simultaneously plays
Fig.8b. They repeat this two times, but the last time Gtr.2 only plays the
F# chord in the last bar once instead of several times. Fig.8 is rather
tricky, because the first bar is 7/8 (instead of 8/8), and the second is
4/4).

This song was actually the first of a mini-opera that Eddie wrote known as the "Mamasan Trilogy". The song describes a boy who grows up believing that one man is his father but finds out that he is not. He grows up to look just like his biological father and his mother falls in love with the son and sexually abuses him. The song "Once" is part II of the story and describes the boy obviously mentally disturbed who is not able to control his rage and goes on a killing spree. The triology is concluded with "Footsteps" where the boy is siting in his cell on death row awaiting his execution.

Other tidbits on the mamasan tri . . . Eddie wrote thought up the trilogy while surfing in Pacific Beach. The Night Stalker was the big news at the time, which got Eddie to thinking what would get someone to go out and do such a thing. He create this storey which blends his dealings with not knowing his real father in Chicago (which he later got to know) and the undertakings of serial killers. The sexual feelings from the mother, to my knowledge, is added. My sources include the Rolling Stones storey back around 1992 (Eddie with mask on cover) and discussions with Eddie's brother Mike (went to high school with him in San Diego). Think this is a reasonable explaination.

This is a very powerfull song, it in a way makes one alive while experiencing the song.
