	this meaning of this song is two fold. In the more obvious sense, it's a plea to the little girl who appeared in the Blind Mellon video No Rain, who seemed to be under the impression that she was a celebrity after her stint as "the bee girl" and went on numerous talk shows acted as though she'd opened up a new career for herself. on the other hand, it's a plea to Blind Mellon lead singer Shannon Hoon, who had taken to the his rock star status a little too well and went a little wild with partying and drugs. unfortunately, he later died of a cocaine overdose in his bunk on the Blind Mellon tour buss.

	I think the drug reference is a clever euphamism - playing on the fact that drugs are often discussed in songs via talk of a woman. The first line is a reference to cards tho, thus gamling. And the major vices are considered to be Drink, Drugs, Gambling and Womanising. I think it's about someone trying to escape from themselves within these vices instead of facing their demons. I find the song in general has a really trancy feeling to it. The repeated descending guitar phrase, the over reverbed guitar sweeps and chugs.

	Mike: Yeah, well I enjoyed that song. It kind of had a…thank you very much…it had kind of a Stonesy vibe to it too, Mick Taylor being one of my favourite guitar players around too, and I like Clapton a lot too. I think that song lent itself to playing that way, and hopefully I achieved that. We recorded it in kind of the analog sense. We actually opened up with it last night, and it's kind of a cool way to open up a show, I found. Yeah, those guys are my guitar heroes, and that kind of sound. I wanted to, when I heard Stone play it for the first time, it was like, yeah, I could just do something like that over it. And it came out pretty cool, I think. Eddie: It's a type of recording that's called binaural recording. There's several ways to do it, whether there's two microphones clipped here [motions to both temples by ear], to not just record the instruments, but record the air around the instruments. You can hear, there's a song called Of The Girl. You know you can hear Mike's, Mike McCready's guitar. You can really feel the space of the room. That is something that you kind of miss from modern recordings, which may be done on pro tools or computer or... It's just a micing technique but I think we were successful capturing some of the moods that happened in the room by adding some of that room sound. 	It is clear to me this song is about a heroin adiction. The title "Of the Girl" is just a cleaver way of masking that fact. The first stanza deals with actually shooting up. Filling up the syringe, tieing off, and shooting up "with the love of a girl." Then there is a period of escapement. The second stanza is more about the effect heroin has on his life. A chosen path, the late nights, and devistation heroin has caused on his life (heavy the fall). He is tormented by his addiction.

	On one of the bootlegs that came out in all the stores (plain whitish gray cover..one of the European shows I think) he explains that it was about Shannon Hoon. It is obviously using the theme of the No Rain video to show how the "Kurt" thing happens to "rock stars", and a plea to keep the childish side of yourself because Adulthood and Death are waiting for you soon enough. 	as far as i know the bee girl on the blind melon cds is shannon hoons daughter - i could be wrong but i read that in an interview with a blind melon members...either way the song is a simple take from eddies point of biew of a person who is becoming famous when it won't do them any good - something he knows about all too well - and gives his opinion on it - "becoming a star will become your doom"... if you're not ready to be in the public eye all the time, dont become a star.

	Oh my fucking God! It's evident that most of you don't know ANYTHING about Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon. First of all, JordyWordy - the bee girl is NOT Shannon Hoon's daughter. His only daughter is named Nico and she was three motnhs old when he died. Secondly, Marigold16, his real name was Richard Shannon Hoon...he just went by Shannon instead. The man may have let fame catch up to him, but he was brilliant and unique to say the least.

	well, the truth is I was selfish enough to see me in this song...when I fisrt heard, just when Lost Dogs was released, I was going through some problems and that song made total sense to me, still does... I used to spend a lot of time alone, and I still need a lot of me-time, I dream a lot, and those dreams only exist in my head...just makes sense you know? It's amazing...
