One of my favourites from the new record. Good to know there
are some proper bands still  out there. I'd love to see Kroeger
write a song this good. 

Had a couple of hours so I though I'd put it up. 
E-mail me with any thoughts, suggestions etc. 

Pretty straightforward stuff. Simple chords with a few fills etc.

	bonsor you took the words right out of my mouth with the beatles thing. i think that riot act is for the pearl jam fans who were kids back when they started and not for peoploe like me (as im only 15). i think the whole album is trying to say that, to adults, people should love themselves others and espically the younger generation. they need the help of older peole and they should look up to them. lots of eds anger comes out on this song about that and it really makes me think about how we REALLY need love in our lives to be happy

	I think it's just about LOVE and how that's all you need. If people would just realize that, that thing with the 9 people that died would have never happened. We need a love boat capt. to help us all and end the fight. Eddie, I love you. -Laura

	LBC refers to the highest being of creation. The author of love. If God is not in the forgotten place, where there is death, love boat captain- maybe Jesus, stirs us towards the clear. It's an art to live in pain is similar to love is self-sacrifice. Am I right Mr. Eddie Vedder???????????

	I know what you mean fred, you are not immediately dazzled by the album but it does begin to grow on you.

	I've got to agree with the interpretations above, and the fact that this album takes a few listens to sink in. The exception is LBC. I picked up the album at the end of 2003, and LBC was immediately powerful for me. I went searching tonight for a meaining of the "9 friends" line, and found this site. What is missing, from all these posts is the political undertones of this song, and album...and general political awareness of the band. Pearl Jam is "reading the riot act" to George W. Bush, and the rest of his gang....Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Rice. The reference to waves pervades through this album...from Green Disease: "well i guess there's nothing wrong with what you say / but don't sell me, "there can't be better ways" / tell the captain, "the boat's not safe, we're drowning" / turns out he's the one making waves, waves, waves... /" STILL...."Love is all you need"

	Okay, I've been thinking along different lines to everyone else. I interpreted this song as being about themselves and what has happened to them over the past 10/12 years. "and the young they can lose hope cuz they can't see beyond today... the wisdom that the old can't give away" seems to me to be about the grunge era, saying that the nihilist attitude they had back then will not solve anything. Their experience has taught them that only love will make people happy.

Those lines probably refer to the Roskilde incident, in which 9 people were crushed when the crowd rushed towards the stage while Pearl Jam was performing. Eddie actually fell to his knees and cried when he saw what had happened...

	I think I wasn't clear in my last post; let me clarify. The song is about the importance of love between human beings: with love it's all surmountable. We are such insignificant tiny grainds of dust in the universe, yet love can give a meaning to our existence. However love doesn't mean hapinness, but quite the opposite: with love, comes pain, and this is in my opinion a profound truth of our condition as humans. Therefore living with pain, hence, with love, is an art that must be dominated, the proverbial wisdom the 'old' can't give away because it must be lived by ourselves.

	definitly true Fred39.... when i first got this Cd i thought it was one of their lesser EP's.... now after a few months listening to it...its right up there with 10 and Yeild
