| This song is about Kurt Cobain. I have read books on both bands. Kurt respected Eddie vedder but hated Pearl Jam. Meanwhile Eddie liked Kurts way of music. He wrote this song for heroin overdoses. and how no-one really knew Kurt. This song has a trapped in a cage feeling but along with that someone has set themselves free, but doing it by leaving everything behind. to quote "once divided with nothing left to Subtract, some words when spoken, can't be taken back, walks on his own with thoughts he can't help thinking, futures above but in the past hes slow and sinking" that lyric set made me see kurt because it describes his life and what did happen. Eddie and Kurt respected each other as artists, but this song can mean anything the listener wants to interprit its just that powerful. The sad lyrics, but at the same time the tranquil music set with it. It is a genious of a song like all others. To each of there own. Think what you want, that is why music is such a lovely thing. | |

| this is definitely the most emotional pearl jam song, at least to me. Its so accurate in conveying its feeling. I think "he who forgets will be destined to remember" is my favorite line in any pj song | |
