PORCH
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Chords A5(1) C5
What the fuck is this world
Running to, you didn't
Leave a message, at least I
Could Have learned your voice one last time
Daily minefield, this could
Be my time, About you?
Would you hit me?
Would You Hit Me?

Chords G5 A5(2) Bb5 C5
Home...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Chords A5(1) C5
All the bills go by, and
Initiatives are taken up
By the middle, there ain't gonna be any middle any more
And the cross I'm bearing home
Ain't indicative of my place
Left the porch
Left The Porch
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Chords G5 A5(2) Bb5 C5
Oh...
Hear my name, take a good look
This could be the day
Hold my hand, walk beside me
I just need to say

Hear my name, take a good look
This could be the day
Hold my hand, lie beside me
I just need to say
I could not take a just one day
I know when I would not ever touch you
Hold you...feel you...in my arms...never again...
Yeah...

| I don't see what's so hard to get about this song. It's partly polical but partly a call to join hands instead of leaving these brain dead twats like Georgey Bush to run the show | |

| I agree with Porch08. It's about a break up, probably due to an uncontrollable circumstance. Actually I'm living this situation right now and every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes, specially the last part where Eddie puts so much emotion on his voice. | |

| The lyrics don't really fit a pro-choice meaning. I think its about a breakup. Eddie wrote that on his arm because it was national television so it was a good forum for his opinion. It just happened to be during this song. (They only get to play two.) But I could be wrong, I'm good at it. | |

| The song 1/2 full also links up with Porch and Breath, the line "there ain't gonna be no middle any more, it's been said before" I think the whole premise is somehow relating to the middle class amid the broadening gap between the "Have's and the Have-nots"... I do not know the exact numbers off hand, but you can find them on goog if you wanna, but here in america the poor are getting poorer, and the rich are getting richer... Some thing like the bottom 20 percent of avg incomes did not fully adjust with inflation meaning, that while they made more money, product inflation was more than their earnings rate increases.. while the top 5 percent out-paced inflation by a large percentage, and the only thing that really seperates the "middle class" from the "lower class" is the middle class has an aspiration to be the upper class... with out knowing those references, I would say the song had to do with a break-up... but know I partially believe it to be about poverty or something to do with the class system.... | |

| Vedder is atheist? Really? You sure? Anyways. this song is great on the Ten album, but it's much better live. The instrumental part is much longer. Check out Pearl Jam's webcast on the set of Letterman for a great version. It's on youtube.com.. Great place to check out plenty of Pearl Jam live videos. Dabavill, that is exactly, word for word, how I view this song. I think the whole "Pro-Choice" thing was just to show Eddie's views on abortion. He probably wanted the publicity at the time. Otherwise, the song has nothing to do with abortion. "Whipping", from the Vitalogy album, is a very catchy and fast-paced pro-choice anthem. Check it out. | |
