a song about god? lol. Pearl Jam are not gospel. anyway, yeah, you can call your father god. But, I think PJ meant their FATHER - as in birth. have a nice day.

o man.. i don't know exactly what eddie means by this -- i know he had many problems with both the father figures in his life but if i could say one thing to eddie i would tell him how much this song has helped me the last couple months.. my father just died -- and when it says "i will ride the wave where it takes me" --that just strikes me.. my dad taught me how to surf when i was younger and he told me that life was like the waves.. it carries you along and sometimes you are in control and sometimes the wave is but you just need to let yourself keep going.. this song means so much to me.. i would never been able to get through with without this song! THANKS EDDIE!!!

To T-Crash,... The weird noises are a collection of recordings called "Master/Slave" My guess is that it was just the band jamming around trying to develop a sound kind of thing they felt needed to be included on ten,... Tim Palmer (or at least I think is name is Tim Palmer) hits a fire extinguisher :)

its gotta be hard to find out that the family friend you were so rude to was your dad... and he just died while you ran away to try to make it on your own and get away from who you thought was your father... wow.. eddies complex aint he?

this song is about being released from stress/tension/dispair, or anything like that. it's begging the strains of tension to release you. i know what it means to Eddie, and that's really cool, but that's what the song means to me when i hear it. by the way, one of the best finales to one of the best records ever. 10/10

I agree with most of the posts, about it relating to eddie and his father problems, i know the song has a more sad vibe, but i really enojoy it, love the lyrics added with eddies voice, hes the best

this song has so much meaning and power for me. i haven't lost my father..but the lyrics to me represent releasing yourself from your mind and the complexities you have to face in your life.. i know eddie had and extremely difficult time growing up with the problems in his family and not having a stable father figure and later realizing you were lied to, and all that emotion is illustrated in these lyrics. the lines "ill ride the wave, where it takes me, ill hold the pain, release me" is like a comforting release...no pun intended..for peace in your mind and stepping back from problems you might be facing. definetly an awesome song
