the opening is absolutely awesome... and this song is pure beauty... but i think while it is about the passing of one he loves it could just as easily be interpreted as she has left him... and i think this is one of my favorite songs ever. i don't know why it isn't popular.

Come on people....... Eddie Vedder did not divorce with beth until after the Binaural album was released...... And EDDIE WROTE the song.... he wrote it to because he liked Jeff Ament's song Other Side and wanted to do his own piece from the perspective of the one who was left behind....... the one who survived...... it is a story, a B-side opera....... Like I wrote before: "This is the other side to Jeff's song "the other side"."

It's a song for Jeff Ament's wife, who died of cancer. Very sad.

How is this song not on a "real" album! I have only heard it live but it is a real powerful song.

This song is not about Jeff Ament's wife, Jeff Ament did not have a wife at the time of the binaural recording sessions. And I do not think he has one right now. Furthermore, he didn't write the song, Eddie Vedder did. This is one incredible track from one of the greatest bands on the face of the earth. I dont have any clue why it didnt make the record. I think it is pretty self explanatory of a song if you listen to it. It is a binaural B-side can be found on the Lost dogs CD and the linear notes state that it is the other side to Jeff's song "the other side".
