| 'Other Side' as mentioned above is about the relationship between Jeff's parents, mainly focusing on his dad I think. So this is about his mom I guess? And Jeff Ament was never married. Ed was married and divorced, Matt Cameron is currently married. | |

| first of all this is a beautiful song, and its my fav. one by them.. the meaning i think is that its about this guy who lost the love of his life because she died. and now hes all messed up and he dosn't want to leave his house or do anything and hes all depressed. And hes haunted becuase he doesent want to love anyone else besides her. thats just my 2 cents | |

| Isn't it "he lit a match, he laid in bed?" Much more powerful a visual than "eleven nights, he laid in bed." I agree with all the above, though. This song belonged on Binaural, which was a strong album to begin with. This one was "hit" worthy, if such a thing with Pearl Jam exists. As it is, it makes for a great "Lost Dogs" addition. | |

| Also I've seen some people interpret the verse: "and his loneliness, it's cruel" Some of the later parts could quite easily be this. I'm not sure whether it's about someone who's died or someone who's left him. Either way, one of my fav PJ songs. | |

| this was written around the time (2000) that ed divorced the woman he'd been married to&dated since the mid-80's (Beth).so maybe it could be about him either...or the idea bout jeffs mom cud b true eithr... | |

| It's holiness...to be holy means to be dedicated...so he's basically saying his dedication is proof. | |

| Isn't it "loneliness"? I think that makes more sense than "holiness." Hard to tell from listening, either or. The eleven nights line is my favorite. | |
