Solo
Guitar 1 plays Riff 2 with palm muting throughout most ofthe
solo, then
drops out a little bit before riff 3 comes in. If you listen to the
song, you should be able to figure it out.
If you have the Hal Leonard book for this album, subtract 2 frets
from every
note played in the solo (and all the little fills). That puts
you in the
right key (D).
Riff 3 (bridge from solo back into chorus)
Guitar 1

F#-------------------------------------------
D------X-10-X-12--10\------X-10-X-12--/14-12-
A--/12-----------------/12-------------------
D--------------------------------------------
Guitar 2 plays a D with lots of muting and scratching, growing
louder and
louder until the chorus. Played like this:
e--5-
B--7-
G--7-
D--7-
A--5-
Outro Riff

| either the songs about an addict or it was written by one. I’m betting the first. Clearly delusional hallucinations, no ability to concentrate and no desire to correct his situation. This cat needs some help. If you’ve ever met a drug addicted washout. You’d understand, I myself however try to avoid these people. | |

| I cant stand people who just go on these comment boards and rip on eddie vedder and pearl jam for no real reason. Whats the point fellas? Pearl jam is one of the best and most popular rock backs now and their fan base is 10 times bigger than linkin park's will ever be. | |

| The homeless meaning makes sense, but if you realy look at it from a deeper angle, the song could be about a guy who denies who he is, he puts up a front. He knows he feels uncomfortable being that fake person he tries to be, "rests his head on a pillow made of concrete." But when he's alone, he realizes the real him, but he hates the real him also for whatever reason, maybe because he is homeless, hence refering to the homeless angle... He can't find his "evenflow", the person he really ought to be in life. | |

| Amunkey i think you covered that really well. Pearl Jam is one of my inspirations, and i spend a lot of time looking into their songs, but ive never really looked at the chorus of this song very much. I really think you nailed it. | |

| The whole homeless idea is a metaphor to someone who, as ''grunge guy'' said, can't find confort in being himself or someone else...Thats one thing....the other thing is this song can be a social manifesto to what is reality nowadays....I support myself on the cd's booklet, in the part of Even Flow it says: Even Flow (not even) and this could be interpreted as how goverments think they are there to make everything ''flow in an even manner", but still there are homeless, miserable and poor people. | |

| This song is definetly about the homeless, because now I'm trying to remember a quote from a long ago early 90s pj show it's eddie introducing evenflow..."Hey how's everyone doing tonight? *Crowd Cheers* Hey so how man of you all came out to the show tonight in limo's huh? *Parts of crowd cheer* Yeaaaa isn't in great riding around in a limo, not a care in the world...Well you know what? Next time your out cruising in your limo I want you to look out that window at the homeless person laying there stiff freezing to death, and I dare you, I fucking dare you to take a sip of that free in-car alcohol...this one is called evenflow!" HAHAHAH eddie you are amazing, standing up for what's right even if it means makign you fans take a look at themselves in the mirror...true genius, pj rocks and always will be the best band ever, PJ4LIFE | |

| I think I read some magazine somewhere that said this song was about some retarded bum drug addict that Eddie used to hang out with. Its was quite interesting actually, because the bums name was steven bow, but they decided to make it even flow, for a more poetic sounding chorus. But anyway my band is gonna make a cover of this song and bring back the orginal chorus of steven bow. Hey guys get off of Elton John's back ok? HE could whoop eddie vedders ass, gay or not, at least elton annunciates, fuckin homophobes! | |
