| A 6 song demo sampler that was originally meant to be heard by "radio DJ's or executives for their reveiw or something" was leaked on a Message board I visit every once in a while, and someone posted the lyrics they picked up from the songs,.. I just thought it would be a good time to add them to get some early discussion going on what they mean,... I haven't listened to the leaked songs however,... I will wait until May 2nd for that :) | |

| I agree with MIGUELCIP. when i first heard the song it reminded me instantly of Springsteen's "born in the USA". In fact, i think this song is an ode to the THE BOSS himself. Musically it sounds similar (the verses especially) and the clear stated lyrics about working class hardship is classic Spingsteen material. Vedder nearly always writes ambiguous, metaphorical songs. (even "Jeremy" created confusion) but here, it's clearly a narrative about a man struggling to make ends meet for him and his family. good to hear Vedder lyrics that clash with his writing style, yet remain poignant too. | |

| Does anyone else think that this song is kind of paying homage to Springsteen's Born in the USA? Not only thematically, but by the way he sings some of the vocals? | |

| Thanks man! Yeah the song definitely owns,,...got it off of I-tunes,... The whole feel of the song right from the begining kinda you know what it's about,... which is something I don't think alotof people are gonna get,... get what I'm talking about, lol.... but the song makes me think of a blue collar american household,.. Mainly because I can't think of many white-collar jobs that have metal lockers you can punch,... It seems to me to be about a blue collar guy who is trying his best to make ends meet, trying his best to keep his family housed and happy at the expense of his own happiness,... He's under so much stress that it causes him to lash out in anger at things, like the locker at work in spite of his religious conviction (the dented "jesus saves ring") the thirty bills unpaid line suggests the reason why he's under so much stress, because the life and security he toiled to build which caused him stress is now threatened which is making him even more stressed out,... An awesome song, with some pretty powerful lyric.... I've heard 4 songs off of the new album,... so far I am liking it hardcore! | |

| What i like about this song is how PJ is not just how PJ is able to relate to the common working man---but more how the sympathy / angst, etc by the band is BELIEVABLE by us, the fans. I mean, PJ is rich beyond anything they ever wanted---Eddie mentions that a lot (and as a result, the band plays longer than many venues allow at concerts and they pay BIG fines so that us fans can have a better concert experience :), yet somehow we feel that they can relate to the commonfolk. It speaks volumes for this band. Humble, righteous, and just plain kick-ass. This band is up there with the likes of U2 for changing the world and urges us all to get motivated and DO THE SAME with the time were allowed here. | |

| The two lines "So this life is sacrifice To a stranger's bottom line" instantly reminded me of an interview i heard from Eddie Vedder recently. He spoke about how employers these days seem less concerned with the wellbeing of their workers than they are with taking care of stockholders: "I dont know who these people are... that are holding stock that care more about some bottom line than a man or woman's right to walk around feeling that their job is able to pay the rent and do some nice things for their family and get their kids good education, a decent pair of shoes and maybe a skateboard... You know, just... have a life" very true words, may i say. and that's basically what this song relates to. | |

| This song is simply amazing - it has been my favorite from the album since my first play through it. It really reminds me of a Zepplin type chord sequence - and the singing really hit close to home when speaking about Zepplin once again. An amazing song - defiantly up there in my favorite 5 Peral Jam songs. When it changes from 'I've seen the light uh-huh ah aaooo - I'm scared of life' I crack it up ha-ha - it's the best part of the song by far! Ah I LIVE for Pearl Jam and I'm pumped by just listening to it....theyre coming out to Australia in August and I have my tickets (Sydney!)...if they play this song I'll freak out - YYEEWW!! | |
