Below is the opening riff that Mike plays. This riff is used throughout
the song without much variation.

This is the little rhythm riff that Stone plays. Listen to this to get the
groove that he is playing -- don't forget the muted rakes.

Stone and Mike basically play the these next two lines about the same.
Although I have added more of what Mike plays into the tab.

Glorified version of a pellet gun Feels so manly when armed
This is a really weird switch in the song ("Always, keep it looooaaaded!!").
The chord pattern is C, C#, D#. Sometimes it is hard to remember to go
to this pattern. If you listen to the live Atlanta show, Mike even
forgets to hit the right chords!
E-|----------------------9-9----|----------------------9-9--------9-9---------|
B-|------------------8-8-9-9-8--|------------------8-8-9-9-8--8-8-9-9-8-------|

E-|-----------------------------|---------------------------------------------|
This is a very simple variation to the first riff that Mike plays. He
basically plays the A note a few more times that normal and throws a simple
5th fret bend. For those of you that can't follow the notation, 5b p3 means
to bend the 5th fret to 7th (whole step), drop the bend back down and
pull off
to the 3rd fret.
E-|----------------------------------|----------------------------------------|
B-|-----3---3--3--------------3---3--|------3---2--3-------------3---3-5b-p3--|

Here is the solo. I am not even sure if it is worth transcribing solos. I
would like to hear some feedback from people. Let me know if this even helps
anyone to learn the solo. I know that sometimes tab is really hard to
follow.
Anyway, tackle this a little bit at a time. It really is a pretty easy solo
to learn. Just think of each part as a small riff.

| I always interpreted the line "I can feel your heart in your neck" as being fear- That Vedder is speaking from the view of a gun-toting man who either holding somebody hostage, or toying with their terror by pointing the gun at them. When a person is utterly terrified for their life, it is an autonomic response for their pulse and heartbeat to be almost visible to the eye. Hence, the gunman could literally feel their heartbeat in their neck, possibly where his gun is pointed. Also, he has the power over his victim's mortality: he can "steal the heart from your neck". | |

| also the line is"double-think, dumb is strength" not "dont think", double think being the famous psychological repression of psychopaths so that they do not disgust themselves with their actions. they turn it into a positive. This si eddie saying tha gun owners trick themselves into thinking they carry a gun for protection. | |

| I take this song to be about the ridiculous obsession with guns some people (especially cowboy-loving Americans) have, and how some people can glorify them like a god (G.)... | |

| I can see that point of view gina marz, though mine differed in thinking of the pearl jam keeping things pretty scathing and satirical. I thought it'd be this guy who feels manly in just having a gun to stun his adversary. But then he checks his pulse and finds he's still alive and keeps repeating, i can feel your in your neck! as a primal complaint. The glorified pellet gun is a placebo for the real thing, the major difference being one kills while the other stuns but drives the singer to choke the life out of this guy until he's truly performed the action which makes him a man. | |

| Meh, Just because I disagree with the politics behind the song doesn't mean I can't say it kicks ass... It's such a fun song to listen to... like RaymLoer said, "Hey, i got a gun. In Fact, I got two". The rest said "guns, like kill people man" and in reply he said "it's ok man, cos i love god". I have compared this song to DTE because of the funky beat, and the highly charged political undertones. | |

| I think the "heart in your neck" lines are related to Americans sleeping with guns under their pillows, thus shooting their spouses in the neck at random times. | |

| haha i love this song. i love the "thats OK man, cos i love god." some religious people think they can do anything and god is on their side. thats probly not what eddie was writing about, but thats what i get from it. the "always keep it loaded" chord progression is so out of left-field and brilliant - i heard that mike mcready forgot to change to it once playing live cos it comes out of nowhere. | |
