This is a beautiful song. Fairly easy to. I'm about sure this is 99& accurate,
you can fiddle with 7ths and what not but just have fun with and sing and it with feeling.
BTW don't forget that Am in the instrumental.
Standard Tuning
Chord Shapes:
G D Em7 A Am B Asus4
--3---3---0---0---0---2----0-----
--3---2---3---2---1---2----3-----
--0---3---0---2---2---4----2-----
--0---0---2---2---2---4----2-----
--2---x---2---0---0---2----0-----
--3---x---0---x---x---x----x-----
Ok enough of that bullshit, let's get going:
D A Em7
the poison makes its way through my body slowly
D A Em7
to the pleasure centers of my brain
D A Em7 G
if you were here i would admit that i'm an asshole
Em7 D Em7 G Em7 D A Asus4 A
but now it's over and i can't stay sober though it isn't like i've tried
Instrumental
D | Am | Em7 x2
D | Am | Em7 G | Em7 | D | A Asus4 A |
D A Em7
on the front porch or on an airplane on vacation
D A Em7
or out for dinner in a nearby town
D A** Em7 G
i was so proud just to have you sitting with me
Em7 D A G
but now it's over and i can't stay sober
Em7 D A G
pour and swallow follow one drink with another
Em7 D A G
i'll keep on til you agree to come back over
Em7 D A Asus4 A
or until there are x's on my eyes
B A G D
my old man always swore that hell would have no flame
B A G Em7 D
just a front row seat to watch you true love pack her things and drive away
There Finished. Now wasn't that easy.

| This is quite a strange pedro song, since you get the meaning the first time you listen it. He didn't make much songs like this one. It's just very clear what he's trying to say in this song. | |

| This song so perfectly portrays the feeling of being inebriated, heartbroken, and pissed off. The way he sings, the lazy guitar strums, the scattered thought patterns, really strange imagery (x's on my eyes) repeating himself, referencing his old man... it's just perfect song construction. | |

| To me, this song ends the themes in achilles heel (obviously, because its the last track on the album), and how whatever the speaker does, he cannot stop the poison (the disintegration) of his relationship, he, now in the depths of alcoholism, reflects on his loss. | |

| I really appreciate David Bazan because he tells stories so well and conveys emotion perfectly in his songs. You really get the sense that a depressed, drunken, broken man is singing this song. And who knows, maybe it is. | |
