All the other versions I've seen of this song are either way off or close,
but I know this is right, it sounds exactly the same as what Pete Murray plays.

	Even though it seems this song has been interpreted by a lot of people from being sung from the point of view of an ex-boyfriend, I think of it as from the point of view of a close friend or brother, someone who has not seen this girl that the song is about for a while. While this guy and girl have been apart she has begun to hang out with different people and do different things, and she now thinks she is hot and cool and better than him, and better off without him. The guy seems to not be able to help thinking about her, but also seems to have feeling of resentment towards her. He wishes she could go back to the way she was so he could love her how he used to. The first couple of times I heard this song I couldn't get to the end without crying. I was going through a really bad patch of my life and I felt like the song was about me. I felt like all those who may have been able to once call me and tell me they care (as in the song lyrics) would now not be able to because I'd changed so much. I felt like my sister, my brother and my ex-boyfriend, and my best friend has once been the only ones who knew how I truly was, and now they've all gone away and I've changed and I don't think they'd know me anymore. That scares me, as it seems to scare the guy in the song.

	As Pete Murray has said (search for the song on youtube and click on the live performance in the Netherlands): It's about someone being utterly pretentious. He says it's the most misunderstood song he's ever written. Apparently a lot of people use it for their weddings, which he finds completey ridiculous because of the meaning of the song. It's a love song, but it's about a group of people he ran into one night. The lyrics are exactly what you think they are about and there's no hidden meaning.

	maybe ur right littlejen...i live in melbourne and apparently my best mate is family friends with the girl this song's about (she is a bit embarassed and a little annoyed from what i've heard) well anyway she a pete went out for ages and they broke up, and he wrote this about her.

	Whenever I hear this song it makes me think of a girl i was with once. the lyrics of this so captivate me and it seems as if the song was like a photograph of my time , some kind of still imagery of my experience. and just to add a big F#*K you to the girl who played me for a punk

	ok well everyones interpretations seem to differ slightly. i believe stonedagedqueens is most correct. reasons: It seems more sexual that being a friend.. and he reminises about the good times with them.. so it cant be just a crush he crushes on from afar either.. My break down: (Found myself just the other day In the backyard of a friends place Thinking about you Thinking of the crowd you're in, What you're up to, where you've been, Just thinking...) self explainatory... just thinking about her for whatever reason... (You know the clothes that you wear, and the colour in your hair, Shouldn't change you, Now tell me why is it so, You're bigger than Mighty Joe At least you think so) here he just says that the way u dress etc doesnt define the person u are, and just cause u change ur hair or your style, it shouldnt change you as a person.. and he is asking why she thinks she is better than everyone else now. (God my fingers burn, Now when I think of touching your hair) Here this seems a little more sexual, which suggests he used to have something with the girl in the past.. ppl dont generally touch someones hair unless u are really close..other wise its creepy.. but he is just saying that he doesnt like the feeling he gets when he thinks about her, as its not a good feeling (You have changed so much that I don't know, If I can call you, and tell you I care) obvious... doesnt think that she cares enough to talk to him, so he feels he cant call and say hi i still care about you, and see what she is doing to herself and how she have changed. (You know the scene that you're in, And the people that you've been with, Just get to me But you think I'm not as cool As you are so beautiful, Who you foolin?) this part generaly says that crowd she is in and hanging out with are the cause and that its annoying him that they have changed her cause they (and her) think they are too cool for him and she if fooling herself. (Well I'm here to tell you babe, The game you're in, is just a game So damn pretentious) just saying im here and im gonna tell u how it really is! she is playing a game that she doesnt realise it yet. pretentious means making an extravagant outward show..putting on a show.. thats how i see it..feel free to try and correct me breaking it down like that

	This song could also be translated to mean that the guy has a major crush on the girl but she just doesn't realise that exists at all. He wants to be with her from afar and is just contemplating why she doesn't like him at all.....depends how you look at the song really because both interpretations seem correct.
