Title: Character Zero
Artist: Phish
Tabbed by: Ryan Camer

This was mostly right, except for a couple notes.
I substituted a 5h2 and it sounds about right.
Try it and see if it sounds a little better.

Riff 1 I was taught a month ago
Riff 2 To bide my time and take it slow
Riff 1 But then I learned just yesterday
Riff 2 To rush and never waste the day
Riff 1 Now I'm convinced the whole day long
Riff 2 That all I learn is always wrong
Riff 1 And things are true that I forget
Riff 2 Well no one taught that to me yet

| Yea Mulcahey was a radio DJ in jamaica (or some island) where he and Tom were vacationing to write some songs. I like the lyrics...to me they describe the duality of advice people give on life and just the overal hypocrisy of the world. Maybe not to that extent, but it comments on it somewhat. Some people preach that you should slow down and enjoy life and then others say rush, never waste the day, do everything you can. In the end, you're left feeling as if you're wrong about everything because half the world feels one way about something and the other world feels the other way, and you just don't know what to do. | |

| beaner: the message I got is that he learned something a month ago, then yesterday he learned that it's completely wrong...so the fact that what he learned is about taking your time or hurrying everything isn't actually important to the meaning of the song, the meaning of the song is that "all I learn is always wrong." But I might be wrong (: | |

| first, i feel sorry for people who have to get stoned/want to modify their bodies chemicals to think openly. it truley isnt needed. some music helps a lot ;) "I was taught a month ago To bide my time and take it slow But then I learned just yesterday To rush and never waste the day" this part could be about school holidays. i dont know about your 'summer' hollidays in america, but here in australia, we get a bit more than a month off school around christmas. definently know the feeling of wanting to do nothing at the start of them, then wishing i had done more at the end. any yer, if anyone out there is dismissing any lyrics of phish, im not gona judge you, but there is definently meaning if all of the ones i have heard. the verbal communication part of any good song is not about what is being said, just as most short stories (and other forms of literature) is not only about the storyline. the use of words in sentences and paragraphs, according to the storyline or meaning, and how you use them, are the primary difference between meaningless lyrics and those created by any member of phish, tom marshall, any song they may have covered at one stage, among others, and lyrics which use words that have meaning, but no value. its as much an artform as traditional art. its a mixture of the subject, material, medium, techniques and style. | |

| Aright, takeajimithing, get your stuff straight... Phish is an awesome jam band but to take them as merely a stoner/hippy/moran like yourself is absurd. listen to the quality and your feelings about the lyrics instead of disregarding them as worthless thought. Jamming is about the lyrics because it is about the song! | |

| Just a freaking awesome song. My favorite of all time without a question. It could mean absolute garbage, I wouldn't give a damn. Knowing Phish, i would believe it if I heard it means nothing. | |

| I don't like when people just throw away the importance of a Phish song and just simply say that they're stoners... :| | |
