Phish-Fee....Love is this song. Decided to work it out. You may need
to look up the chords. Have fun, and keep playing!
The rythem is something like a palm muted strum and then a clean strum
on each chord.
Verse:
Cm Abm
In the cool shade of a banana tree
Bbm Gbm
On the rugged trail towards the balcony
Gbm7 Db
A child of the twentieth century
Ab
A dried up goliath and a weasel named Fee
(same chords for each verse)
Far away in another place
A fading beauty named Milly Grace
A gospel singer with pocks on her face
And a bamboo cane to help her keep the pace
Fee was a buddhist prodigy
Long past the age of maturity
Someday he knew it would set him free
Like it did for Floyd the chimpanzee
Chorus:
Eb Bb Db
Oh, Fee you're trying to live a life
Ab
Thats completly free
Eb
You're racing with the wind
Bb
You're flirting with death
Gm7
So have a cup of coffe
Ab
And catch your breath
Piano solo after the chorus:
Cm Bb Ab Eb Fm7 Cm7 Bb
Fee first met Milly in a bar in Peru
His heart was jumping like a kangaroo
Like a beast in a cage in an old Dutch zoo
It was hopping and jumping in wooden shoes
But Floyd was jealous and alone
He wanted Milly for his one
A desperate craving in his bones
"Thier love," he said "I Will not condone."
Then one day on a ship to quebec
Floyd found Fee,and Milly on a lover's trek
He picked up a bottle and broke off the neck
It sliced through the air and Fee hit the deck
Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
You want to so stay with Milly
Until you're dead
But you just got a bottle
Upside your head
Milly turned and began to scream at Floyd
She said "You think you're pretty mean"
And though she was a thin as a small string bean
She slammed him in the face with a nectarine
Floyd fell back over the edge of the ship
Until he hung by the rail by his fingertip
Milly said "Floyd i'll make you lose your grip
With this tiny peice of paper i will make you slip
So Milly took the paper and did the deed
Floyd hit the water with astonishing speed
And as the sharks circled in and began to feed
Milly knew her weasel was finally freed
Oh, Fee, you're trying to live a life
That's completely free
Floyd is dead; he's nothing but a ripple
Cause Milly took that paper and sliced him on the nippleMuch Credit to David Douglas McCallum.
When recorded in Junta, they played this in a different key. Since then
they have dropped it one step lower and is the reason for all the flats.

| I always considered it to be the opposite of The Beatles' Rocky Raccoon. (Fee = Dan; Floyd = Rocky; Millie = Magil / Lil / Nancy) | |

| It was part of Trey's school project at UVM and high school where he wrote a fanciful tale of all sorts. Fee was aprt of that tale. | |

| ever since the first time i heard this song i immediately thought it was talking about acid. mainly the end when she says "with the tiny piece of paper i'll make you lose your grip" acid blotter is damn small.... then it talks about how he hit the water with astonishing speed. so he started tripping fast. then the sharks circled around... his trip really started to hit him hard. then afterwards his mind had finally been expanded and he was "free" just my thoughts | |
