Some guy sent me this, and I think it's a great transcription, so here it
is. The transcriber is mgordon43@aol.com.

the key to playing this tune effectively is texture. this song is perfect
for dropping your low e down to d, but trey doesn't do this, probably due
to the continuity problems it would pose.

trey is basically outlining very simple chords above mike's steady d. it's
really extraordinarily simple, phish-wise, but a great tune. for
guitarists out there who might not automatically notice the arpeggio's,
i've put the chords they refer to in parenthesis.

anyway, so when playing this, let every note ring as long as possible and,
if you're used to playing with your fingers, really snap the strings when
it seems appropriate.

verses

this goes back to half of the intro.

the only thing i can say is that mike is taking trey's role, impossing
different bass notes over the D.

he seems to like to start out like this:

D G F# F C ,

slowly progressing to other, sometimes far-flung, stuff.

hope it helps

if you could id like any song not on the net like sleeping monkey or gumbo

Its about being born. I see the path ahead of me In a minute I'll be free The music itself gives that sense of entering a new world. The first note has that big "boom" feeling to it, then suddenly dies down, just like when a baby is born and theres tons of loud noises, but once its over, everything is quiet and people are just left to awe at the new life.

Yea, well Trey didn't write the song, so its not about Trey's drug addiction. Tom Marshall wrote it.

This song can also describe their jams at the end of most of their songs. They have highs and lows, and just kinda drift..."Floating in the blimp a lot"...

skemodan, i agree mostly. it dam sure is about being born, possibly born again, in a different way (no, not that way :P) i think its about finally understanding life. once you understand something like that, you are really on top of the world. free. but also mabey the ability to control and confine that understanding to yourself, as it would be unique, and be able to use it to your advantage in this world.

Those lyrics are wrong, it is "and you'll be splashing in the sea" The song is really talking about a man who wants to throw his wife overboard.

Possibly about an astronaut's journey back home or the soul's release during death. The first time I heard this song, however, I thought it was metaphorically describing a drug trip.

I am either high, I am a balloon, or I am a sperm free to complete the long swim to the ovum. I think the last one is a far stretch from the truth but I love this song. Classic tune, will go down as one of the best psychedelic songs like "Ina-Gotta-Da-Vita".

it could be being born, understanding life, or pushing his wife overboard honestly.... but the firts time i heard it the impression i got was that it was about heroin. we all know trey does it... and he's talking about "feeling the feeling he forgot" and floating... etc
