Pinback is an indie rock band from San Diego. The band was formed in 1998 by Armistead Burwell Smith IV a.k.a. Zach ( Three Mile Pilot, Systems Officer) and Rob Crow ( Heavy Vegetable, Thingy, Optiganally Yours, Physics, Goblin Cock, Alpha Males).
The name Pinback is a reference to the whiny janitor in the film Dark Star (played by Dan O'Bannon, who also co-wrote the film). Samples from this film are used frequently in the band's early works.
