Dogs Of War

by Pink Floyd

[here are the chords, listen to teh record to find get the rhythm]

Cm
Dogs of war, and men of hate,

With no cause, we don't disciminate,

Discovery, is to be disowned,

Our currency, is flesh and bone,

Ebm
Hell opened up, and put on sale,

Gather 'round and haggle,

Cm
For hard cash we lie, and decieve,

But even our masters dont know the webs we weave,

Ab
One world, it's a battleground,

Fm
One world, and we will smash it down,

Cm
One world, one world

Cm
Invisable transfers, long distance calls,

Hollow laughter, in marble halls,

Steps have been taken, a silent uproar,

Has unleashed the dogs of war,

Ebm
You can't stop what has begun,

Signed, sealed, they deliver olivion,

Cm
We all have a dark side, to say the least,

And dealing in death is the nature of the beast

Ab
One world, it's a battleground,

Fm
One world, and we will smash it down,

Cm
One world, one world,

[solo]

[last verse w/ overdubs below]
Cm
The dogs of war wont negotiate

The dogs of war wont capitulate

They will take, and you will give,

And you must die, so that they may live,

Ebm
You can knock, at any door,

But where ver you go, you now they've been there before,

Cm
Winners can lose, things can get strained,

But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain,

Ab7
One world, it's a battle ground,

Fm G7sus4
One world, and we will smash it down,

Cm
One world, one world .......

I don't know about anyone else, but this song scares me. I grew up around this song, and it still bothers me. I like music that deals with things a lot darker than this, and those songs don't bother me as much as this one does. It's that dark.

This is quite possibly the WORST PIECE OF SHIT the band "formerly know as Pink Floyd" ever trotted out. Wow...see what happens when you drop the most creative and brilliant member of your band? This song is shit. This song is Gilmour and crew trying to cash in on Waters passions and make them their own for the sake of Floyd being Floyd. It's disgusting. The song sounds like a limp, tired dog with one leg trying to pick itself out from under a flipped truck. IT'S SHIT and anyone who says otherwise has very strange, uncultured taste.

It's guitar great to the Gilmour max. The song fits the early part of this century. Johnny Cochran died yesterday. What he said is that the glove didn't fit. This song fits with the other 10,.....like a glove.

Nice, Kozmic. Way to take something and connect it to something not at all related. If you don't like Bush, that's perfectly fine; but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's evil incarnate. Jesus Christ, the song doesn't fit into the world situation in any plausible way.. Anyway, truly a badass song. I would have thought everyone would know about Julius Caesar, but I keep forgetting what facts are well-known and which aren't... oh well. ledbaron, it's a nice story, but it really isn't what relates to this song. It could be true, but it's not what this song's about.

What, incu!? What!? WHAT!? The title is a reference to a line from Shakespeare's Juilius Caesar: "Cry havoc! and let slip the dogs of war!" "Dogs of war" is a metaphor for the wild ferociousness of war. Jackass. The song is extending the metaphor.

This song makes me really hate George Bush... I mean it totally fits to situations in the world right now. George Bush is Evil incarnate. And yes, I know this song is from 1987... I'm just saying it FITS right now.

^^that might be correct but what lacks is passion. I have a feeling that is Roger wasn't writing about the war beforehand, David and co. wouldn't be doing it now. Sounds like they just flipped open a newspaper, read the first headline regarding war and decided to write a song about it because hey, that's what Pink Floyd do.

I've heard the same thing that pigegg stated, but another story i also heard was about an outnumbered group of marines fighting in France during WWII. There was a forest that the marines had to get through to either take or just to accomplish some other mission, but in the forest was a large group of german soldiers. There were about 50 marines, and over 200 germans, so the marines charged into the forest, killed damned near every german, took some captive, and accomplished their mission. The marines had 0 casualties. The surviving germans begans calling the marines Devil Dogs after the battle. Supposedly one of the Members of PF learned of this story and they penned the song. Could be true, could be bunk. Don't know, but I thought it was an interesting piece to add.

Kozmic, while it can be applied to Bush, it can also be applied to leaders of countries throughout history (eg. Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, et al.) In that regard it's timeless, there will always be war mongerers, and there will always be those who disagree with them (like David Gilmour).
