| This is NOT an orgasm song. It's Clare Torry's beautiful way of expressing and answering the question "are you afraid of dying?". | |

| In one of the songs on dark side of the moon, you hear someone who is either Syd Barret himself, or someone imitating him saying(in all his insanity): "there is no dark side of the moon, in fact, it's all dark!". Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just what someone told me. | |

| So in the Dark Side DVD I have that has interviews with each of the Floyd members and people who worked with them, I was surprised at how they came up with this song. As you can tell after listening to the album, the albums main focuses are Death, Money, and Time... So for "Great Gig in the Sky" they wanted it so you could FEEL the mourning... they wanted someone with power. So they called up Clare Torry and had her listen to the musical part of it ONCE and said "All right, we want you to think of despair, dreadfulness, no hope... death.. and we want you to explain it with your voice"... so she went in the sound studio and belted it out... she comes out all embarassed "Sorry, guys, that was horrible." the members of Pink Floyd are stunned and even after trying different ways, they choose the very first recording Clare did with only listening to it once. This song is about Death... for the person dying.. and the person who's dying's family... | |

Bloody Mess All Musical Thunder |

| Though the actual melody and Clare Torry's voice are beautiful, the few spoken words are the most important part to understanding this song. The voice is very defiant in saying "I am not afraid of dying". however, I believe that he is trying to convince himself as well as us (unsucessfully, in my opinion). He is afraid of dying, so afraid that in the end, he goes mad (the other factors are important too, obviously) So the guy is frightened of dying, but he hopes he can convince himself that he is not, so that he won't worry as much when the time comes to die. | |

| I think it's just about death! it comes in the "dark side of oz" as dorothy is sybolically dying or getting knocked unconcious during the tornado as the house is detting thrown around the sky. hence the name great gig in the sky. If you don't know what "dark side of oz" is, look it up on yahoo | |

| The really wonderful thing is that they used Claire's first take. It's so spontaneous, it encompasses so many emotional colours, and forms the centre of this complex view of human dispair and doubt. Many people see DSoTM as just a massive technical achievement, without regard to the enormous personal input. This track is my favourite piece from the album. | |

| In my opinion, there is SO much emotion in this instrumental song. Even though the lady never actually "sings" any lyrics, her emotions are very apparent. Excitment, anger, sadness, then anger again...and so on... I get so deep into this song when I hear it that I practically experience the same emotions with her. | |
