I was going to leave a comment on 50 Cent's Candy Shop, but then I thought WHAT IS THE POINT!? So, I'll stick to leaving comments for proper grown-up songs! Lol. What can I say Shine On is a classic! I also prefer the second part to the first, mainly because of the start and the finish... and the bits in between...

Plus, I'd like to add one final thought: The only thing wrong with this album, is that it's too *short*. Anyone who's ever listened to it knows that.

Clarify which parts, darkmage. IV was the lyrics on parts 1-5, and IIV doesn't exist, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

I guess that makes sense nukethesun but I think this part has a sort of a closure sense to it . I always thought the line "Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there" refered to the his state of mind. like he knows that somewhere along the line he'd get lost too and sink in his world of madness.

i know im probally alone in saying, but i like parts VI - X more than parts I-V. I really really like the "Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there." part. its like roger saying that he knows the band isnt gonna be around forever and when its through him, and the rest of the band will see Syd again. the next part it talking about what they'll do when they get there. love it

When they were making the album, 40 minutes was a good length. Nowadays, that's only half of what one cd can contain.

On the Best Of CD, the track has parts 1 - 7 without parts 8 and 9. Shame.

Yea, the 17-minute version was from Echoes, but they lopped off the ending instrumental. Great song, sounds better off Wish You Were Here, its good to have a break between parts I-V to the end, and the instrumental at the end (IIV and IV) seals Wish You Were Here nicely.

Well, pinkubus, I wouldn't say you are alone in your assumption. I enjoy playing the "second part" more than the first. Between the lap steel and the synth, it just becomes a great example of what the Floyd was all about. To "bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph." It's this that all Floyd fans do!

Which is kind of why he wrote "The Wall." Because to an extent, he had gone a bit mad, to the point that he got an overinflated opinion of himself while onstage and spat on a fan. At that point he probably realized that he had "joined Syd there" and wrote "The Wall." And yes, lyrically it does belong last.

I just finished listening to Wish You Were Here myself. I don't see how you could say its too short, its only 3 minutes shorter than Darkside of the Moon. This song was gonna be one side to the record, but it got too long so they split it up and put it at the beginning and end of the album. This part is excellent but Im gonna have to jump on the bandwagon and say that I like parts I-V better. Still, Shine On You Crazy Diamond should be thought of as one song and the whole thing really is just a rock masterpiece.

In context with the lyrics, it should come last, but does anyone else think the actual order of the songs should be Wish You Were Here, Part II, then Part I?

I just noticed: Part 9 ends exactly the same way as Part 1 begins... I think.
