Pink Floyd - Sorrow (Gilmour)

Em D/E Em D/E Em D/E C/E Em D/E Em D/E

Em
The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land

D/E
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky:

C/E
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers,

Em D/E Em D/E
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking

Em
He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise,

D/E
In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise

C/E
He's chained forever to a world that's departed

Em D/E
It's not enough, it's not enough.

Em
His blood has frozen curdled with fright

D/E
His knees have trembled given way in the night

C/E
His hand is weakend at the moment of truth

Em D/E Em D/E
His step has faltered.

Bm A/B D/A Bm/F# F#m
One world, one soul.

Bm A/B A Bm/F# F#m
Time pass, the river rolls.

Gmaj7 D/A Gmaj7 D/A N.C./B A/B N.C./B Bm

Gmaj7 D/A Gmaj7 D/A N.C./B A/B N.C./B Bm A/B

Em
And he talks to the river of lost love and dedication

D/E
And silent replies that swirl invitation

C/E
Flow dark and troubled to an oily sea

Em D/E Em D/E
A grim intimation of what is to be.

Em
There's an unceasing wind that blows through this night

D/E
And there's dust in my eyes, that blinds my sight

C/E
And silence that speaks so much louder than words,

Em D/E
Of promises broken.

Although I agree w LuciferSam, that doesn't mean this song sucks; even though it's not in the same league as Echoes, it's still quite an enjoyable and fine song.

I first heard this song on the day that Syd Barret died!

My copy of AMLOR (off the i-tunes music store) didn't have this song. However, I have listened to it on Danceage.com, and it seems pretty good. And LuciferSam, everything except Shine On You Crazy Diamond (all parts) sucks when compared to Echoes, so you should not compare any songs to Echoes, because it makes music seem like it has no point if it doesn't happen to be called Echoes and be on an album called Meddle by a band called Pink Floyd. That goes for you too, Paradox. Don't be bringing Echoes down, no matter how much you like this song.

I think that this song is quite good, except for the chorus. Being able to write a chorus proves nothing. It's like saying, "Hey guys, I'm writing a song, but I don't have much to write, because I just can't think of anything, so I'm just going to repeat this same thing over and over and hope people are fooled." And Pink Floyd is good precisely because it does not do that (for the most part). One last thing, I'll admit that I shouldn't have written that last part of my first post on the song. I was just really into Echoes at that time (still am, Echoes is officially my most-played song on my I-pod, with 163 listens, 22 more than the second place, Tom Lehrer's poisoning pigeons in the park). In case you were wondering this means that I have spent more than 2.5 full days listening to Echoes.

'Haunted by the memories of a lost paradise.' Let's see what we can do as the human race to prevent these potentialy prophetic words. A few of the words above are due a re-wording. Demau can probably edit just a wee bit. Dogs of War is ahead of this on the album. I hope it's not that way in the future. All the tracks were read in order on alternate radio the week of,.........9 letters in Pink Floyd and 11 tracks of 1987's AMLOR. Great David Gilmour and his guitar's magic wonders!

But seriously, Echoes is just a song. It's not quite like any other song, though. In my opinion, this track is the best track Pink Floyd has ever done! You know, the WAIL-ing of the guitars part DOES sound very similar to the WAIL-ing of the guitars part on Echoes. You wouldn't shout at me for this, would you?

Um, there are 10 tracks on this song, and Sorrow is the last one. Dogs of war is the third song. So I have no idea what you're talking about Malaria Kidd

However, I don't think AMLOR is very good. The only 4 good tracks are 'Learning To Fly', 'Sorrow' and the 2 parts of 'A New Machine'.

Yeah that was my review on amazon. Too bad I've forgotten the password for that account and I can't make a new one and start reviewing again unless I buy something. And no, Echoes is actually 23:32 long. Could you tell me what you were trying to convince me of, please. And as I've already said, I was wrong.

Gilmour usually writes the words after he gets the music, but he did it the other way with this song. At least that's what I've been told.
