From: Midnight Rambler
Subject: CRD: Pink Floyd - Wearing The Inside Out
Wearing the Inside Out
chords by Karl Magnacca
Cm Gm
>From morning to night I stayed out of sight
Dm F
Didn't recognize I'd become
Cm Gm
No more than alive I'd barely survive
Dm F
In a word...overrun
Gm Dm
Won't hear a sound from my mouth
Gm Dm
I've spent too long on the inside out
Gm Dm
My skin is cold to the human touch
Gm Dm F
This bleeding heart's not beating much
Cm Gm
I murmured a vow of silence and now
Dm F
I don't even hear when I think aloud
Cm Gm
Extinguished by light I turn on the night
Dm F
Wear its darkness with an empty smile
Ab
I'm creeping back to life
G
My nervous system all awry
Ab Bb
I'm wearing the inside out
Cm Gm
Look at him now, he's paler somehow
Dm F
But he's coming around
Cm Gm
He's starting to choke, it's been so long since he spoke
Dm F
Well he can have the words right from my mouth
Gm Dm
And with these words I can see
Gm Dm
Clear through the clouds that covered me
Gm Dm
Just give it time then speak my name
Gm Dm
Now we can hear ourselves again
Gm Dm
I'm holding out for the day
Gm Dm
When all these clouds have blown away
Gm Dm
I'm with you now, can speak your name
Gm Dm F Bb
Now we can hear ourselves again

| I agree with afenton, wokingclassloser, and justanothersadguy, It puts the feeling of isolation into words better than i can describe. And with afenton saying, "If you haven't been there, you won't know." It's like describing the color red to someone who is color blind or the sense of hearing to someone who is deaf. | |

| its about how much ppl were oppressed back then in the Berlin's Wall era , how much ppl wanted to express themselves but at some point in their lives this was completely useless , i think none of us will understand this feeling of opression unless we lived thought it and survived , finally in the last songs of the album he start to speak again freely. | |

| I totally agree with WorkingClassLoser, and all other's who say "If ya havn't been there, you don't know" Only thing I would like to add is I think they are trying to convey how hard it is to rejoin the social world, like parties and get togethers...times when a person want's to join in and talk to others but is so nervous that they can't do it. And the background vocals are an imagination of the person about what others are thinking about them and about why the quite person isn't saying anything. It's like paranoia put into words in this song. Very meaningfull to me and one of PF's best imo. | |

| Afenton is right you did at one time need to be there to understand what is being talked about. I have so for those that haven’t and need it explained to them I will explain it. It’s about a man that has basically isolated himself from the world and all he has is his depression. Within isolation he no longer has the need to talk seeing there is no one around to talk to when you’re staying out of sight. The man in the song no longer feels emotion nor has realized he has lost it. In time he dose realize that he isn’t doing well and slowly tries bringing himself out of his depression his living death you could call it. Therefore he is creeping back to life meaning leaving his depression and the part about his nervous system all awry means he is begging to feel emotion again. I really hoped I’ve helped explain it. I think this is the best post-waters song Floyd has. | |

| Rick Wright is so underrated, his contributions were as good as Roger's or Dave's easily, but he had so few oppurtunities, I think they really underused him. I look at my list of favorite Pink Floyd songs and most are penned by his hand, and quite a few sung by him. | |

| The drugs Syd used forced him into isolation, and he never came out. The man in this song personally forced him self into isolation and didnt realize it, and does come out of it in the end. | |

| This is about Roger Waters, plain and simply: From morning to night I stayed out of sight Ditn't recognise I'd become No more than alive I'd barely survive In a word...overrun Look at the Roger Waters dominated years, Rick Wright kept his mouth shut, didn't write, just played his music, he was overrun by Waters. I murmured a vow of silence and now I don't even hear when I think aloud Extinguished by light I turn on the night Wear its darkness with an empty smile Again, he can't write, he can't even express himself. His life was completely controlled by Waters. Look at him now He's paler somehow But he's coming round he's starting to choke It's been so long since he spoke Well he can have the words right from my mouth He, in question, is Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is paler, without Roger Waters, but they are coming back into a groove with their lives, the band itself hasn't been aloud to speak for years, it was all Roger Waters, and Rick Wright is saying that he will speak for the band, i.e., writing songs for it. I'm holding out For the day When all the clouds Have blown away I'm with you now Can speak your name Now we can hear Ourselves again He was waiting for Roger Waters to either leave, or more likely, let everyone else contribute. He was fired by Waters but is back with the band, and the last part, "Now we can hear ourselves again" speaks for itself really, what with Roger Waters not being in the band anymore. | |
