Pink Floyd - Yet Another Movie (Gilmour, Leonard)
Dm C Gm Dm
Dm
One sound, one single sound
C
One kiss, one single kiss
Gm
A face outside the window pane
Dm
However did it come to this?
Dm
A man who ran, a child who cried
C
A girl who heard, a voice that lied
Gm
The sun that burned a fiery red
Dm C Gm Dm
The vision of an empty bed
Dm
The use of force, he was so tough
C
She'll soon submit, she's had enough
Gm
The march of fate, the broken will
Dm
Someone is lying very still
Dm
He has laughed and he has cried
C
He has fought and he has died
Gm
He's just the same as all the rest
Dm
He's not the worst, he's not the best
Dm C Gm Dm
Dm
And still this ceaseless murmuring
C
The babbling that I brook
Gm
The seas of faces, eyes upraised
Dm
The empty screen, the vacant look
Dm
A man in black on a snow white horse,
C
A pointless life has run its course,
Gm
The red rimmed eyes, the tears still run
Dm
As he fades into the setting sun
Dm C Gm Dm

| I think the song is about a man going to war, and from an outside observer, it seems so much like just another movie. He gives his wife a goodbye kiss, she watches him through the window as he walks away, as their child cries. Their bed is now not as full as it was. "the use of forge" could mean fighting with weapons, and his wife is getting tired of waiting for him, shes had enough, weary from battle, he loses his will, and dies. the next verse shows that he was a man, just an average man, like many before him. Then all the people mourning the loss of their loved ones, eyes upraised, babbling with vacant looks. Then the image of death on a white horse, as the memory of the mans life fades with the setting of the sun. | |

| I think this song is about a person in reflection on his life, what has happened, where it's lead, and finally where it's going to end. He doesn't necessarily know the last, but it sounds like he's got a pretty good idea of where it'll all lead. It seems as though he's feeling depressed because his life has turned into "yet another movie", meaning that it is just formulaic and like everything else. It's riddled with disappointments, glaring errors, and regrets that he swallows in acceptance very bitterly. | |

| One of the best tracks on AMLOR (I know, Sorrow is the best one on there), which includes sound clips from the end of the movie Casablanca. | |

| This is just one of those songs that give you chills. This reminds me of channel flipping too but more specificaly the part in the The Wall (The movie) where Pink is watching TV "The empty screen the vacant look." It's weird how the Casablanca words fit in so well "Maybe not today maybe not tomorrow but someday for the rest of your life." | |

| What I've always imagined this song to be about is channel flipping (round and round) in the middle of the night, jumping from old movie to old movie.. and the guy's singing about the odd movies he's jumping to and fro. | |

| Another great song from 'A momentary Lapse of Reason'. One of my Favorites of the Pink Floyd eighties sound. | |

| I love how you can hear sound clips from the final scenes of "Casablanca" playing during the song. Love that movies, love this song. | |

| I agree with Pitface, and it's about time for another comment of what it means to me. I like it, but where it comes from is a mystery. David didn't know either. I hear it only on The Classic Rock Experience a syndacated radio show in the US. The Friday Floyd Fix with Michelle Michales. I doesn't remind me of a movie though. It is a typical eighties piece like Pitface said. You'd never hear any group do anything like it today. Pink Floyd's namesake Georgian bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council broke the mold from Heaven! Cody | |

| LuciferSam: Um, actually, not really. My CD doesn't have that freaky satan rock you mention.. I believe you may have downloaded a flawed copy of the song. I suggest you go out and get yourself the original. It really is a keeper. | |

| A lot of this song sounds like it could be referring to cinema in general, and the "He has laughed and he has cried he has fought and he has died he's just the same as all the rest, he's not the worst, he's not the best" part to a specific actor, implying that all the roles he's played in have still done nothing to make him stand out from any other actor. | |

| Um, halfway through this song, during a guitar solo, it switched to a completley different kind of music, freaky satan rock or something, is that supposed to happen? | |

| Does anyone know if they might have read Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" books before this? This song for me fits so eerily with "The Gunslinger" that it almost gives me chills. If you've read the books I'm sure you'll know what I mean. Most of this album seems to just flow so well with "The Gunslinger" it's just uncanny but especially this song. | |
