This is one of the most beautiful and inspirational songs I've ever heard. It practically makes me cry whenever I hear it.

When I first heard this song I got goosebumps and was literally breathless. It kinda reminds me of going to a foreign country...

The Section in the middle still freaks me out every time i hear it. By the way, Meddle is PF's best album hands down!

Echos is really awesome! Who would have thought a 23 minute song would kick so much ass? I really don't like how they shortened it in the Echos album:Best of PF. I don't think they should shorten any of the songs they put on that album, but thye shortened a few of them! Hands down, Echos is one of the best songs ever!

According to a semi reliable source Waters said that the 2001 sync with this song is not total conincidence, but only because the song was partly inspired by that "Infinity and Beyond" scene. The Wizard of Oz sync with DSoTM is total bullshit - it doesn't exist. There are a few conincidences, but none of them are very remarkable.

the best Floyd song around bar none..... The lyrics poured out in this song are better and more emotional than anything pop music has put out in the past couple of decades. I believe this song is about life, and also about love to an extent.

Frank N Furter, have you actually listened to DSoTM while watching WoO with no sound(start DsoTM @ the second roar of MGM Lion)? The sync. is undeniable and uncanny. Scenes and tracs change at the same time(if you get the timing right) flawlessly AND the themes are compatible. For instance. when Dorathy is balancing on the barnyard fence "balanced on the biggest wave" is coming out of the speakers. there is a lot more. I'm not saying it is intentional just uncanny.

Love this song! The first verse could be about the evolution of life moving out of the sea onto the land (towards the light). It may also be suggesting that we will never know why life IS or where it is going. The second verse might tie in with this notion by suggesting that we are all part of a greater life system or conciousness or spirit. We can't describe it, but we might be able to experience it fleetingly through these chance glances. Insightful, inspiring and beautiful! (PF might be aware of other ways of expeiencing it also!) If this makes any sense to you, check out some of the lyrics to Tool songs like Third Eye and Aenima - similar notions (although the similarity might only be in my interpretation!). The debate about their meanings is pretty interesting too.

Relating to IcedPachyderm's message of 5/7/02, "submarine" just means "under the sea". The vessel type could reasonably called a "submarine boat", since submarine is adjectival. Still, the dictionary allows its use as a noun (the boat), an adjective (undersea), and as a verb (attack or bypass as in a submarine).
