Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Added to UG By Mikhailo (mikhailo_@mail.ru)

C D
So, so you think you can tell,
Am G
Heaven from Hell, blue skys from pain.
D C Am
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail, a smile from a veil,
G
Do you think you can tell?
C D
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts,
Am G D
Hot ashes for trees, hot air for a cool breeze, cold comfort for change,
C Am G
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
Em G Em G Em A Em A
C D
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
Am G D
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
C
Running over the same old ground. What have we found?
Am G
The same old fears. Wish you were here!
Em G Em G Em A Em A G

| Just a comment on the wall... The Wall was actually about Roger Waters' life and how he built a wall around him to separate himself from reality so he didn't have to deal with life. | |

| How the heck does Pink Floyd always come up with such deep stuff? I mean, you can listen to the Wall over and over and if you didn't hear what it was about somewhere else, you'd probly be found sittin in a corner listenin to it over and over to interpret it. It seems like all their music is like that. A lot of it has dual purpose meanings too. So many songs, so many different interpretations..... Thats just my view on things though. | |

| I have spent many hours thinking about what this songs means. I have came up with several possible meanings-but i believe the first one I thought of is the best. I think this song is talking about someone being torn between two people. The entire song is a metaphor between this person's two choices, spoken by one of the suitors in a plee of desparation to be the chosen one. | |

| It's my opinion that "Wish You Were Here" is sort of a sarcastic remark. You know, like those people that go on vacation to Bermuda and send a postcard back saying "Wish you were here". So he's in this miserable place and "hey wanna' join us?" Also you can take it another way. If you look at the cover of the album titled "Wish You Were Here", you see a man on fire shaking hands with a man not on fire. You could take that as a "misery loves company" sort of thing. Let me catch you on fire so you can relate to my pain. | |

| pink floyd is amazing, and Ferthuko is right... it is about sid barret leaving the band. this song could have a few different interpretations, but that one is correct. i watched a pink floyd thing on tv the ohter day... thats exactly what the band said. | |

| "..we're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.." I don't care what it's about. That, to me, is the saddest line in any song that has ever been written. Absolute genious. | |
