craigus's corrected lyrics are way better than the ones originally posted, but isn't the ending "the sound surrounds the icy waters underground" as in the orignal posting? That's what I hear in the song, anyway.

I think it's very hard to describe the meaning of this song exactly. Like all of the early-period Floyd songs, it's very hard for us to guess what was going through Syd's mind at the time of writing. Sure it's nice to try, but only Syd can understand, really.

This Song gives the feeling of space travel, and the lyrics describe what you are seeing. At the beginning their is a countdown then the song takes off, then he's describing the earth.
