dasquien!--i read that when PF were recording this album, the Beatles were in another studio recording sgt. peppers, so they both came out around the same time. i really think this song is great. the whole album is great. its so different than anything else they ever did. so much better too, but then again they did have an artistic leader at the front.

I think with alot of syd songs, he may have come up with them in a "trip" so whatever he is saying is to far out to interpret, but hes just painitng a picture of a fairytail land here isnt he, where and how he came up with it is another question. Acid fairytales.

eh, i dont know about all this deep meaning stuff for this song. Syd loved fairy tales and stories. I think this is just a song about his childhood, like perhaps his mother reading him a story.

i like the war explanation, but the only thing is syd was born in '46. it would be at least '49,'50 before he would hear any fairy tales surely??

Played during concerts in 1966 and 1967. Recorded February 21/22, 1967. The lyrics were taken directly from a children's book written by Hillaire Belloc. Barrett was forced to rewrite the lyrics after the Belloc estate refused to grant permission.
