Do you sense something strangely obvious about Dave Gilmour 4/4 time acoustic
arpeggios?
Like, for example, "They're all exactly the same"?
Hmmmm...
This here TAB was given to me by Lucifer Sam at Newcastle Poly, so you can thank
him for it...

| Amazing song, really carries some real emotion with it. The lyrics feel to me like they're about raising yourself up in the material, business world. The lines "Turn my lead into gold, Flash the readies," "Got to make it to the next meal," and "I'm the man on the outside looking in," all seem to point to a man trying to obtain money and wealth. Then at the end, when he's finally "I'm the man on the inside looking out," and he's inviting other people into his world, "Here me shout, come on in! What's the news, and where you've been?" He's finally attained his goal, but "There's no wind left in my soul and I've grown old." means he's lost his meaning and grown old in the process. Just my take on it. And I usually don't quote so many lines in my posts, but I couldn't help it with song, the lyrics are just so great! | |

| Yup, this is the standout track on OBC. I like the way the tempo reflects the lethargic, jaded mood of the lyrics. In verse two: "flash the readies" -i.e. notes (bills for those of an American persuasion) -you can tell from the context, quite apart from the fact that "flash the red is" is ungrammatical. I thank you. | |

| I think its "lead into gold" too. Also "sent the promise land" not said. I think this song is about being tired with life, a litte ennui maybe. I think this guy is just run down and lonely and needs to find comfort and home. Home isnt the house where you grew up at a certain point in your life. It seems like he finds it at the end of the song but it took him a long time to get their and now he just wants to rest. Kind of reminds me of Time a little bit. Great song, can't believe not a very many people have said anything about it. | |

| You sure it's not "Turn my lead into gold" ? That makes more sense to me... Great Great song, I think it's about never being where you want to be. Being on the outside looking in.. then then inside looking out. :) | |

| This song has an excellent title, but is a bit too slow to be a five star song. Also, the man on the outside looking in is a type of lyric that I just don't like. It doesn't work for me. That said, this song is very good. Great bit about growing old. My dad, who's nearing fifty, loves that part. | |

| Sounds like one of those saga songs from pf, but shorter than echoes and shine on. Slow progression from desperate but hopeful youth to jaded and ignored old man. | |

| I honestly don't know what I'm saying. I disagree with both of my above posts. It's not a five star song, but it's also not too slow. It reminds me of Randy VanDermeer's (or whatever he's called) song Just When I Needed You Most, except that this song doesn't suck. | |
