What Brian has said live before playing this song: "This is song about being gay, on drugs and goth in Luxembourg." Luxembourg 1999 "I lived in Luxembourg for a number of years. Take my word for it, don't go to Luxembourg, just drive through. This song's about being in the wrong place at the wrong time." "A long, long way from here is a place called Luxembourg. And there lives a very very sad guy. This is a song about being in the wrong place at the wrong time." From an article (The life and loves of a he/she-devil - Select, April 1997): "It's been a long day and, at the end of it, Placebo have decided to ditch their mime artists. Brian Molko is much relieved and takes this as a cue to talk about Placebo's next direction. He's just written a song called 'Burger Queen' - about being a gay goth heroin addict in Luxembourg. "It's really the worst you could ever be. A goth, gay and on smack in the worst place, Luxembourg. It's so sad.""

I've heard that this song is about a gothic, heroin addicted, homosexual in Luxemburg. I remember Brian saying that is the worst thing to be there. The "gothic" part of it is when it says, "Chooses his clothes to match his pallid complexion" Pallid means really light or pale. The drug and homosexual part of it is obvious. If you really think about the lyrics you can really put it all together.

I just read this book called rainboy boys about these 3 homsexuals and after every gay meeting thing they go to burger queen and one of the character says to this confused guy to come to burger queen with him. I love this song i only just fell in love with it today and ive had it on my iPod for so long. Goes out to cruise and to meet his connection - goes to gay places Hey You, Hey You He never scores he just gets an infection - Hiv Hey You, Hey You Dreams of a place with a better selection - there arent many people like him there Hey You, Hey You Still it takes him all day just to get an erection - he still hasnt done anything with another guy Hey You, Chooses his clothes to match his pallid complexion - dresses black to contrast with his pale skin like gothic

Every time i listen to this song it sounds like a gay guy in denial. 'burger queen', burger being slang for vagina, queen being slang for gay... "Still it takes him all day just to get an erection".. makes me think of a gay guy fucking a girl.. not being able to get hard. probably wrong, but you knooow :)

"Hey You, Things aren't what they seem Makes no sense at all, Things aren't what they seem" To me, this song is about the futility of life, the sorrow in it. It is very much a wake-up call to those who do their best to be typical. It is like Brian sharing his great-inner-secret with us. This song is like painting a portrait; with what you hear, and what you feel, and what you recognise(re-learn). It is like a lament for the life he has turned away from. Repression of emotion- a dull life which is reflected in the narator's sexuality (not being able to sustain an erection). Dreams of a face that is "pure perfection", valuing physical beauty. A perfect face which perhaps reflects the soul? Or am i being sentimental?

this song is brilliant - I think is about a kid (male)depressed, lost and confused, so I guess goth, gay and depressed fits the profile - although I did relate to this song at times so I kind of feel dirty now (I'm not gay), but what smacks of irony is I used to think "if people started thinking I was gay, I would relate to this perfectly" (I knew what the 'queen' reference meant, but I always thought of it as other people saying it - 'he's a burger queen', the song seems to be someone describing the person its about) , and not too long after everyone started saying I was gay for no partiuclar reason, some people said I looked gay, but I don't do anytihng to indicate I'm gay or at least thats how I see it, and when I look in the mirror I see a guy far from gay. I guess its just mroe fule to the fire of my hate for everyone.

This song is about brian molko- he wrote it about himself. Its track number 12 on "Without You Im Nothing" album. He grew up in Luxembourg and he hated it. He hated schooling because he was an outcast, and he thought that life in luxembourg was boring. At shows whenever he introduces the song he says: "I lived in Luxembourg for a number of years. Take my word for it, don't go to Luxembourg, just drive through. This song's about being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Cmon people! Its obvious this song is about a gay guy - its called burger QUEEN for gawds sake! I dont know if that means the same thing in america but in england thats slang for gay people. Its about the stereotypes people have of homosexuals - references to infections and dress sense. Total rejection aswell - coming onto a straight guy?
