it is about drugs and love...like a comparison between the two...brian said it himself... "didn't want you anyway"...like i never knew that i needed you so much but now that i have you, i can't let you go...works both for drugs and people

almost every placebo song is 'about' drugs or vice, but usually as a metaphor or double entendre. In this case Brian is comparing destructive relationships to drug abuse. He's saying before meeting this person, he was self destructive and indulgent. Things must have changed afterwards, but didn't last, and now the speaker is throwing it back in the other's face, saying, "Baby's looking torn and frayed," "Baby's looking to get laid," using the pet name as an implication, "how could you treat your 'baby' like this."

Song about calming down your social life when you get into a relationship, only going back to that life and bringing your partner down to the same depths with you

to be honest, I think "towns that change their name" makes a lot more sense, especially in regard to a rockstar life. And it definitely is "to BE naked and profane" when you listen to the live versions. I agree on the singular of "Thunderbolt" but I cant really tell if its DO WANT or DIDNT WANT. Would say its the latter but anyway, in my opinion one can interpret every Placebo song the way one wants to. Its the same with "Summers Gone", really. He is singing "You try to break the mould" but you cant really tell if it isnt "You try to break THEM ALL". Agree with the rest, especially the orasm thing, would be very molko indeed! One of their best songs ever!

brian's left home when he was 17, so I guess he feels a bit abandoned.. like no-one really cared for whatever he did for a long time, and that's the real reason for the drug-abuse and everything else. he probably used to do the stuff he did to get any reaction AT ALL from his parents and people in general. so, he'd been living alone for a while, and hadn't seen his father in quite a long time, who's a very strict person, and never agreed to anything he ever did. so his father tells him he's coming to visit.. maybe to try to sort things out. so brian's desperate and anxious a few days before he comes, because he knows his father won't aproove his lifestyle. seems like his father is a very autoriethycal being, and very cold, too. like they never had a close relationship or anything. so now brian's nervous, and abusing drugs because he doesn't know what else to do. his father hasn't really seen him grow.. and his vision of brian is that he's still a 'baby'.. except thje baby's doing shocking things, like looking to get laid and looking torn and frayed, you know. now the masquerade thing has two meaning, really. to me, anyway: a) he wants to hide, he's embarassed with everything he's done. b) the masquerade reminds me of a roman orgy.. like he feels dirty but still can't stop doing what he's doing, 'cos things are way too tempting. ''It always seemed enticing to be naked and profane there is no denying'' - well, he tells himself he can't feel guilty of what he does, even though to other people, it may sound like sin. ''Thunderbolts and lightning - effects of drugs, maybe? Each day a brand new vein Each tourniquet colliding'' 0 that's pretty obvious, right? he's rushing into things by pure curiosity, and colliding because he's rushing too much.

first off, all the lyrics are wrong. and i've listened to this carefully (to the original and to several live versions) and know quite well how molko pronounces words! this is one of my favourite songs so i have to point these things out.. 1. TOWELS HAVE CHANGED their name. IN a horn of plenty. 2. Even THE crack cocaine 3. to THE naked and profane (not 100% sure but sounds more like the [de] + in that case it's more molko to me) 4. Thunderbolt (singular) and lightning 5. DO WANT you anyway (i want it to be don't but molko clearly, especially in live versions, says DO) (6.) just a funny thing: in one live version he sings "each day a brand new vein, it is very frightening" and starts laughing now, to the meaning, "days before you CAME" the word came to me means "got an orgasm" that would be very molko and the word has a dirty sound when he sings live. "towels have changed their name in a horn of plenty" hmm-hmm, that would even sound logical in a sick way... "days before you [finally] came, [you were] counting breaths inside me" anyway, the drug references also sound bad, like even drugs weren't doing it before molko's partner finally CAME. everything sucked before he/she CAME!

whether or not this is what they mean, i've always thought the lines "Days before you came, freezing cold and empty... counting breaths inside me" etc. meant that before he met this person, he was empty and every moment was just a second closer to death and didn't hold any meaning to him...this person gave his life substance and meaning...

Its a trend that most placebo songs are concidered to either be about drugs or relationships. Personally I don't think anyone can really contest that days before you came is about drugs. 'Days before you came Counting breaths inside me' ~ waiting for the next fix 'Not even crack cocaine Could start to hide me' ~ crack couldnt replace or hide the need for a fix of something else 'Won't you join me now Baby's looking to get laid ' ~ people looking to get the fix 'join the masquerade' ~ join the masses of people hiding intill they can relieve themselfs of their need

to me its like fucking a person, but with no love or feeling. just completely cold sex- "Days before you came Freezing cold and empty". Or it could be about herion. "Even crack cocaine Couldn't start to hide me" - some heroin users try to relieve junk sickness by using other drugs, but for this person other drugs (crack cociane) just arent hiding the withdrawl symptoms. "Baby's looking to get laid" - not 'get laid' in a sexual way, but getting a fix...getting laid with herion. "Each day a brand new vein Each tourniquet colliding" - the herion user keeps trying to find more places to inject into. I think that the title is essentially about waiting to score....and how if you have junk sickness, it seems like days until you can next get herion. just an idea.
